    Agreed on the later point, and often they are fairly common shots. Some of the most interesting photos are from unusual locations that require a bit of thought.

    I'm fairly certain that enough time has elapsed that all of the permits from the old scheme have expired. There are a limited number of official volunteer photographers but they have a VPN number on the back of their Hi-Vis. Everyone else shouldn't be there.

    Mainline maybe, not necessarily the case with heritage railways. In fact, a quite a few drivers I know are of the opinion that stopping short and then drawing forward is more likely to cause problems than not with steam.

    Oldest coaches running in preservation?

    Keighley run a vintage train in the summer with several Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway coaches plus the NER inspection saloon and a Metropolitan compartment coach. One of the L&YR used was originally built in 1880.
