    Island Line flooded - 25/10/2023

It's a chimney. Rather confusing at first glance.

    The Penrhyn Quarry Railway

The other two items look like single ends of broken sleepers for very early round bar rail, such rail being turned down at the ends to form a very flat inverted U shape. The one with 2 holes being a joint sleeper to accept the adjacent ends of 2 rails. The other being an intermediate chair sleeper.

    Historic Metre-Gauge Railways in Provence

Thanks for posting these, I am spending far too long tracing these routes on google maps. I spend time down near Tarbes, and have been exploring the old line from Auch to Vic-en-Bigorre, via Mirande. It seems hard to find maps of disused French lines, the best one I have found so far is...

Turning a DVT into a locomotive - can it be done?

How about turning DVT into a seated DVT and running 1 power car, 4 mk3 and one of these.

State of the rail on Thurso/Wick Line.

Known as a Semi Supported Joint. The introduction of tamping machines made them obsolete, as the different sleeper gaps at the joint made their use difficult.

Strange tunnel under embankment, local mystery, anyone shed some light?

Is it the section of embankment between Bridgford Road, and Radcliffe Road? They were originally flood arches before West Bridgford was developed. I read that the River Trent levels were altered with the building of Holme Lock and they became redundant. As for the partitioning, air raid...
