    Italy to UK next week?

First class for Zurich -> Cologne -> Brussels But, yes we know its more expensive, but we negated the added complexity that it would have entailed. I think we're within £200 of the interrail price with my rough guesswork!

As promised, the outcome of this - and not using Interrail as that was a hurdle too far! Fri 15/9: Regionale 19159: Bagni di Lucca 09:03 -> Pisa Centrale 10:14 Intercity 670: Pisa Centrale -> Milano Centrale 15:53 Hotel Sat 16/9: EuroCity 318: Milano Centrale 13:10 -> Zuerich Hb 17:27 IC...

    Italy to UK next week?

Without using the postal service, and not being in a major transport hub, makes this rather difficult for them! E-tickets now must be "checked-in" before you board the train... Electronic version of validating paper tickets.

    Italy to UK next week?

Thank you everybody for your most helpful suggestions. I'm reticent to even consider recommending the interrail idea, in the knowledge that they'll have to install and get to grips with a new app without any of our technical assistance available. I struggle with the RailEurope / TrainLine...

    Italy to UK next week?

Hi all, I'm after some advice. I have a couple of aging relatives in Bagni di Lucca. One of them has been in hospital there recently, and we just want to get them home in the most expeditious manner whilst minimising the changes and hassle. After a lot of to-and-fro-ing, we've come up with...

A potential pay per mile fee to replace road tax.

Also, the more EVs we can get plugged in and re-feeding the power grid when required, will help create a country-wide huge battery for soaking up the intermittent green supplies of electricity!

A potential pay per mile fee to replace road tax.

Actually, if you consider the digital tachograph as a data collection device, instead of a time monitoring device, the idea is not as daft as you are making out. The digital tachograph collects not only times, but also vehicle mileage and mileage driven by that driver - as well as the driving...

A potential pay per mile fee to replace road tax.

Unless coupled with automatic speed fines.... anything more than 1.17 miles per minute is obviously illegal!

A potential pay per mile fee to replace road tax.

Better idea, but implementable? Digi tacho already exists and has been accepted, expanding its use is easier than many other answers...

They have both an odometer and time reading... auto speeding fines? But negates the people troubled about being tracked....

A potential pay per mile fee to replace road tax.

There's already a perfectly functioning system, that just hasn't been used for this purpose yet. Digital tachographs - as per HGV and coach drivers. Pay per minute of driving. 6 miles in the country should take ~8-10 minutes. 6 miles in London takes a lot longer. This technology already...

Chiltern Rail fare dodging and possible prosecution - can I request cctv

Surely, having paid that amount, it is the time to raise a formal complaint over the handling of the matter with a better regulatory authority - with a view to having the unnecessary stress and inconvenience compensated? He had bought two tickets for the journey, and still had to pay a further...
