It's a long shot but can anyone identify this station please?

Of course that's a factor. But closures went ahead esp in Lincolnshire where if it was an electrion there would have been accusations of gerrymandering Trains suddenly disappeared from timetables even though they were running. The Labour government in the 60s went out of their way to destroy the...

TransPennine Express Nova 1 (Class 802) Diagrams

Will the 17.03 Newcastle Liverpool be a 802? I'm catching that train very soon Yes it's an 802. Sadly I won't be on it. I caught the 16.42 voyager

It's a long shot but can anyone identify this station please?

It's so sad when station's loose their passengers and services The big question is where did the passengers all go to? The vast majority were literally driven away from the railways as both labour and tory governments deliberately and systematically destroyed our railways. For different reasons...

TransPennine Express Nova 1 (Class 802) Diagrams

10.03 Newcastle to Liverpool was an 802. I was at Durham Station when it pulled in. Train was very lightly loaded. It was plain grey

    Goose Hill Jct To Wath.

It had all gone by then. Interesting stuff though why Masborough had two platforms that were never really used. I remember them in the 60s being out of USE. Beighton was definitely a GC station. I always thought it was on both the cut and the old road. From the Map its clearly only on the cut...

    Goose Hill Jct To Wath.

I've double checked and Beighton was a GC station on the line between Rotherham and Chesterfield I've looked at the route map and the lines around Beighton are so complicated. The "cut" is definitely GC. The old road seems to be MR. I can't find out what trains ran from Masborough platform 3/4...

Wasn't Beighton a GC station and that's on the old road between Rotherham and Chesterfield

    Goose Hill Jct To Wath.

It's a good question. Trains from the Rotherham side on platform 3/4 went to Chesterfield via the old road. The old road I'm certain was GC. Yes I'm not certain it was joint. But given that trains went from there to Chesterfield via the old road, it raises the question. From what I can gather...

    Goose Hill Jct To Wath.

It was. But Masborough was joint. As was Mexborough. The history of the area is very convoluted but that's not surprising given the myriad of lines in the area. Nationalisation confused things even further. Dad used to work the line thru meadow Hall up to Chapeltown and the works in the area...

I remember when the xc trains were diverted away from going via pontefract due to subsidence etc. Did the still continue to call at Masborough when the went via castleford? Masborough was a joint station wasn't it (going way back) and Great Central used platforms one and two. There were lines...

    First Class on local services.

We used to do weekend first from Edinburgh to London in the late 80s and into the 90s well before the network was franchised

TRIVIA - Things you saw travelling on BR that you don't see today

Actually they disappeared as the network was prepping for franchising. There isn't a railway network in the world that runs a profit. Basically, tocs only make the money the make due to taxpayers handouts. A public service is for the public just as the NHS is. And as we the public still...

    Goose Hill Jct To Wath.

I remember it went through castleford. I also remember the trains absolutely hammering through Normanton. I still get a shiver at those Peaks at full speed with 12 on. Some of the cross country trains stopped at Masborough as well. Or did they? I know the xc via Pontefract stopped there. I'm not...

    First Class on local services.

I vividly remember taking the 10. 20 (or thereabouts) stopper from Berwick to Alnmouth. It was a dmu. I can't remember where this train terminated. This was maybe in 1988. It had a first class compartment that was declassified. We had travelled from Edinburgh and had to change at Berwick for...

TRIVIA - Things you saw travelling on BR that you don't see today

Of course. Fond memories. I remember being at Chester when a 24 brought our dmu in. It was a marvelous run to crewe I loved those Saturday extras and their convoluted routes. Favourite the 11.09 Scarborough to Sheffield via Barnsley. It stopped at Normanton. There was an afternoon Scarborough...
