If it ain’t a straightforward train ticket to Edinburgh or elsewhere north of the border they aren’t interested. Definitely contact SR so that others (hopefully) can have a better experience in future.

On a side note, the friend can still get 1/3 off train tickets when travelling with a named companion using a Two Together Railcard - this might be something worth suggesting to them. If they are disabled there’s also a railcard for that.

I expect they’ll be caught immediately because real railcards within the app have security features including changing colour. Screenshots stand out like a sore thumb. Oh and the scannable code can easily identify the real owner of the railcard.

I think you’re tempting fate by choosing to travel with Avanti when an alternative exists, especially for such a time-critical journey. I’d take the 0709. The 0859 from Lancaster was cancelled yesterday for example (and the train after it too).

Yes, you can buy Advance tickets on another operator to bridge the gap. Many forum members including me have done just that, and Northern’s guards see these tickets every day, so they’ll be used to it.

I’ve just had a look at booking both of your journeys separately. Both are enabled for e-ticket. For some reason, the issue arises when both are in the basket.

I’m inclined to agree. I can’t see any basis on which using Avanti on an Any Permitted ticket to Sheffield would be permitted (nor can I see any chance of getting past the dragons at the Euston gateline) :lol:

Ah - there is however a set of LNR & XC only walkups which allow travel via Nuneaton.
