with the residential training NR will put you up in a hotel from Sunday night through Thursday night, every week for 12 weeks. you head home for the weekend Friday after class. there are only 3 training centres - York, Coventry, and Basingstoke.
it’ll be interesting to see what happens there. SE’s pay is always behind Southern and Thameslink. you would think that SE would have to bring their driver’s pay in line with that of GTR’s to keep them from jumping ship. that said, they haven’t seemed to think it was necessary in years gone by.

I’m off to signalling school at the end of February after nearly 13yrs of driving trains. I’m used to the strict drug and alcohol policy as well as random screening but I’m still surprised to hear this as I don’t remember it being an issue at drivers training school.
