    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

"5G" is meaningless unless you take the time to go and delve into the details of what exact frequency bands you're connected to. Mobile networks simply need to set one parameter to "true" in order to make your device show the 5G icon when you're only connected to 4G. This is called "upper layer...

Portsmouth Harbour to Ryde Pier Head

For what it's worth, if people plan to use the hovercraft and have a Railcard, it is cheaper to buy a ticket from Fratton to Ryde Hoverport with that Railcard than it is to buy a hovercraft ticket on its own.

ONS exploring classification of DfT OLR TOCs as public sector bodies

Northern were classified in March 2020 based on the previous accounts of the privatised franchise (likely 2018/19 but I've not checked). It doesn't seem unlikely that most costs were met by revenue in that period.

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

I haven't seen any evidence that 2.4 GHz is what they're using other than your claim that's the case with a pdf that doesn't seem to mention it anywhere. As far as I'm aware the main concern was with n78 5G (3400-3800 MHz), hence why the stations have gone live without this.

    Brighton Mainline 4G/5G upgrades

Or my phone's GPS didn't record in the same exact location as that red. Or (as the app can only record, say, one data point every second) it didn't record a data point exactly as I passed over that point. But yes, the maps generally update every week or two compared to the actual data which...

    Brighton Mainline 4G/5G upgrades

Yeah, new site separate to the Cellnex scheme. The colour just represents signal strength (RSRP), and nothing about usability. This area has always had a lack of usable internet on EE for me, so it's a welcome change (even if I've not noticed any immediate improvements because I didn't know...

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

I think most of LUL uses SelTrac, now sold by Thales (sadly not the team I used to work with!), and that typically uses low frequency communications compared to what we see with Siemens' Eurobalize ERTMS implementation.

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

But out of band emissions (OOBE) exist, which means that noise outside of those bands is inevitably created when transmitting on those frequencies. I think it's much less a case of "does this interfere" and more a case of "have we tested that this doesn't interfere". To be fair, the CBTC...

    LU/Elizabeth Line 4G update

The Elizabeth Line core uses CBTC which transmits instructions from the signalling system directly to the train via radio frequencies. I believe those frequencies overlap with WiFi and/or some cellular network bands, hence the concerns.

Wasn't the Cellnex site. Another additional site effectively adjacent to Copyhold Jn (43018 in the image below):

It's of course up to you to decide which to choose. We've seen people on here get settlements for single cases, and then had follow ups from the TOCs when they've checked journey history in the past too. While I don't believe GTR have done this, it doesn't mean they won't in the future, and...

Contactless Reading <-> London Journeys Cap + forgetting to tap in/out

They cannot see whether you have touched in or not with contactless, only Oyster. The back office system registers the check (as you point out) and will determine if a penalty should be charged based on the aggregated tap data for that card at the end of the day. Nothing happens in the moment...

I feel that the letter is quite wordy and weaves around some of the points you're trying to make. I think it will be clearer and more straightforward to cut it down, as well as making the life of whoever is reviewing your letter easier. I've swapped the final two paragraphs (often the staff...

    Brighton Mainline 4G/5G upgrades

See Post 48: https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/brighton-mainline-4g-5g-upgrades.243539/page-2#post-6415267 This is just one specific example of good tunnel coverage. Ironically, EE have a similar setup, yet end up with terrible coverage. Potentially because of them only using 2 degrees of...

For what it's worth, the wiki we're building is here: https://wiki.railannouncements.co.uk/index.php/Main_Page Very much still WIP.
