You intimated that a sprung base is just springs. A sprung base is also full of a flammable material to make the base soft. If it was just springs it would be the most uncomfortable seat ever.
CAF are building a tri-mode for LNER. I’m fairly sure they could reduce that to bi-mode by removing the battery element from the equation.

No it’s booked for 156’s. It doesn’t matter what traction is used for the training runs. 142’s were used for the Appleby to Carlisle crew training runs after the Eden Brows closure.
