Hi
Whilst out this evening I noticed several trains both freight and passengers travelling very slowly over the Chettisham Level Crossing near Ely. On passing over the crossing I saw a large board with a T on it which I took to be a temporary speed limit sign.
Anyone aware of the problem ? I...
Apparently there is damage to over half a mile of track. Suggestion is that the tractor pulled out when the train was within a few hundred yards.
Damage to the loco is extensive. Maybe up to 3 months off line.
Figures I have heard suggest the bill could be over 100 million all in.
The...
I dont suggest telling them not to travel, however for a period of time it will be more difficult than currently due to older stock. I have plenty of friends who have traveled by train for a long time before these improvements where introduced. They have been brought in for very good reason...
I may surprise you, I would take the view that if the pilot felt able and safe, I would accept his professional judgement.
In terms of driving a train, they would almost certainly have driven a train in that time. They would almost certainly have passed over the line driving the current stock...
There is some coaching stock there. Do they have problems other than the disability access ? Genuine question as an enthusiast who just loves seeing anything running on rails and other than the very basics doesnt understand much.
Issues like the disability requirements can be suspended quite...
So all those nice Power Cars at Ely cant get out to help, because the staff dont hold the competencies. Would the crews from the measuring train and/or the pullman be allowed if they signed the route ?
Some of the people at my firm have been involved on the in service gathering of data from standard rolling stock. Its in its early stages but they have systems outthere to help the rolling stock lease companies that will undoubtably make their way to the NR managed infrastructure as the...
The signing of the route I think is less of a problem on the diversion via Cambridge and Ely as it's a common diversion used fairly regularly. The bigger issue I guess would be the lack of OHLE between Ely and Pboro, and I'm told by the local staff that there is a power availability issue at...
The line has some capacity I would suggest but it would run the risk of interfering with freight paths.
However as one of the ECML diversions, it would make it easier not too have to drag the electric only units to/from pboro.
Was at Ely last night and the Colas department train ran round itself around 8pm and a new member of crew wandered down to it a bit later, in preparation for heading to Hoo.
The other frieght that came up to Ely was a 66 loco sent to stress test the points near the accident, from Ipswich last...
