Not TV but Radio 4 still plays the national anthem at the end of each day's programming (which actually happens at about 1am, when it hands over to the World Service for the night). In a world of 24/7 media it's quite nice in a way that Radio 4 takes the night (well, four hours in the night)...
And in turn your post on that veritable thread Mr. @Purple Train has really made me laugh! Thanks for that.
Having previously both boarded and alighted at Reading (though not necessarily always in that order) may I humbly add that people regularly try to board with suitcases the size of Saturn...
There are a couple of nice photos of the train on the HondaWanderer website:

Having looked it up, apparently above-the-button red/green men are better for people with visual impairments so that's a good thing. The thing that just irritates me a bit is being used to looking forward and not seeing the men there! It really is the small things isn't it...
Several of...
Something I've been meaning to add to this thread but keep forgetting - over the past week, something that's made me happy has been seeing GWR's Remembrance Day train (800306 I think it is) multiple times during the week where we marked the eightieth anniversary of VE Day. I don't know whether...
Yes that's just a bit scary!
And now you've mentioned crossing the road - I'd also like to ban pedestrian crossings which don't have the red and green men on the opposite side of the road, and instead next to you above the button. Those crossings always catch me off-guard and make less sense...
It's certainly been mentioned before (and probably by me!) - but I would ban people walking about staring at their phones. I sort of understand messaging on-the-move (e.g. to let a friend know you're going to be a little late meeting them perhaps), but even then surely you can move somewhere out...
Something that made me very happy today was getting to see the South Devon Railway's 5526 (admittedly from afar) running through the valley near Dartington on its way into Totnes near the end of the timetable. Excellent stuff (even if my photos make it loook like the 55xx is hiding behind a...
Hi all,
Would someone be able to tell me what's on this one today (3rd May) please?
0Z79 1645 Reading Traincare Depot to Penzance T.& R.S.M.D.
Thanks!

And another thing with online forms - trying to find whether they've gone for 'England', 'Britain', 'Great Britain', or 'United Kingdom' in a drop-down list of countries. Often it's the last of those and it's tucked in with the rest of the U's but sometimes it's at the top of the list.
I'd also...
I've just seen in the Radio Times for this week that London to Brighton: Side by Side is opening BBC Four's programming this coming Saturday (26 April), starting at 7 p.m. It's only five minutes but a lovely little film showing the route in 1953 and 1983. This was last shown on BBC Four in May...
RailUK was launched on 6th June 2005 - so we've hit 20 years being the UK's most popular railway community! Read more and celebrate this milestone with us in this thread!
