    TrainSim Screenshots [Large Images]

My word, those are amazing! The middle two in particular look like models and they're just superb. I've not been this impressed about TSW for a long while. Jolly good work! -Peter :)

    What's your latest acquisition?

You sure you've not just bought a real 37 there @Cowley...? ;) -Peter

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Ah thank you! That makes sense. Though I'd rather have my phone with Spotify than all those tapes! To extrapolate from my own experiences, I wonder if it's just because the people going round with headphones are used to having music on all/almost all the time at home so it seems logical...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

This makes me wonder - and it's a genuine question as I wasn't around at the time - but did people think the same/similar things about people wandering around with cassette Walkman devices with headphones? (Though maybe this is something for a new thread.) A lot of the people I know who wear...

    Supermarkets discussion

Thankfully my local Sainsbury's was open this morning - they had staff at the entrance letting people know about the paying-by-card problems, apparently customers could pay at the regular checkouts but needed to do chip-and-PIN. The self-checkouts which accepted cash were open but the ones which...

Hornby Live Steam Flying Scotsman model

I think there's a small dedicated 'fanbase' for these Live Steam models - I saw a layout at the Great British Model Railway Show back in October 2022 which featured solely these locos: (Unfortunately these are the only photos I have!) -Peter :)

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Ah thank you! I'll have to give that a look. I'm not usually too fussed about what Windows looks like, but when they change the functions I use regularly I get irritated! -Peter :)

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

That's the shortcut I've been using - but thanks. :) It's just irritating having to remember to use it rather than the button! Aha! Thanks so much Richard - that's worked a treat. Now I'll be seeing my desktop at the push of a button once more... -Peter

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

I'd ban Windows removing the "show desktop" button in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen (on the right side of the taskbar). It's gone in the past few weeks I think and it's really annoying given how often I use it! I wonder if there's a way of getting it back...? -Peter

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

It's probably already been mentioned, but I'd ban this trend in television programmes where people are interviewed of showing them coming in, sitting down, getting ready, etc., instead of just having a proper introduction. I know it's often done to make it seem more personal or whatever, but it...

    Tube Map of Britain

Exactly. I can totally see maybe a local rail user group/'Friends of xyz station' putting something similar to this up in a station building just as a bit of fun. Might not make too much sense though if they put a faux-Tube map up in Scottish Highlands... ;) -Peter

    Tube Map of Britain

'Great minds think alike' @duncombec - I was just about to post something exactly like what you've written! As a fun little exercise which replaces Underground stations with the names of places around Britain, I think this is great. Yes it's not 100% perfect but then again does it need to be...

Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

I'd ban retail parks being unnecessarily difficult for pedestrians to enter and exit. I've just had to go to a local one and even just a little sign saying 'pedestrian exit this way' would've been nice... or maybe a path around the edge of the car park, instead of making pedestrians walk through...

    Hattons is Closing Down

I've just seen this too. The link for their FAQ page is here: https://hattons.co.uk/closure I've been out of the hobby really for the past couple of years, but this came as a big shock. It does make me wonder if there'll be some changes in the hobby going forward. -Peter

Which films have been shown the most times over the Christmas period ?

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins are always on at Christmas. The former felt like I was watching some bizarre fever dream when I saw it yesterday! -Peter
