A very silly mistake - going to Cork by accident...

Oooh! Same thing happened to me when staying at Malaig youth hostel in the late 1980's! We (me and two friends) had to climb out of a window to make good our escape and catch our train. It was the time of the 'travel anywhere in the country for a fiver' offer (young person railcard) and we had...

Train cancelled, can I claim for car parking?

For what it is worth, I'd have done exactly the same. And I quite agree with you.

    Landslip in Sonning Cutting

Yep- definitely. We used to live just down the road from there. I recognised the location in the original pic. Made me feel quite nostalgic!

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

I so wish we had a 'like' button. I wholeheartedly agree.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Thing is, I can see it getting to a stage where paper tickets just aren't available any longer. It's increasingly difficult to manage normal life without a smart phone and I think that will increasingly be the case.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

Snap! (See my earlier post above).

    Unsteady, nausea inducing Avanti services

:D I love the tilting BTW. It makes me feel as if I'm on one of those exotic Japanese-style trains. I can pretend the Howgills are actually Mount Fuji.

E-Tickets on dead phones - a possible solution?

As I mentioned once before, it nearly happened to me on a journey from Penrith to Euston. My previous phone had started to run out of charge rather quickly (I upgraded soon afterwards) but as I was intending to travel in standard premium (AWT) I wasn't concerned on the basis I could put the...

How long can i be held on a train?

Speak for yourself! I'd be off the train and half way up a Munro given half a chance... :D

Station announcer phraseology no longer used

I would have loved that! I moved to Reading (as a student) in 1982 so I fear I just missed her.... :(

Sitting with a person when a train is empty

Yes I agree. Being a woman I think that's partly why I don't like that feeling my space is being invaded, though I think it goes beyond that in my case. Mind you, I said the same on a similar thread once and was flamed for it. I suppose we all roll differently....

Sitting with a person when a train is empty

I hate it when people sit next/opposite/very close by me on trains when there's plenty of room. I know everyone has a right to sit where they want and accept that I'm probably being unreasonable but it really gets under my skin and I have to move elsewhere. Mind you, I think I'm probably a bit...

Paid for e-ticket - phone died, penalty fare issued, first appeal unsuccessful.

It very nearly happened to me once when en route from Penrith to Euston. The power points on the train weren't working (I forget now what the issue was) and the phone I had at the time was getting a bit moody about holding a charge. I'd (stupidly) assumed I'd be able to charge it up on the...

    Unintentional invalid ticket

Something similar happened to me once at Reading. I was travelling to Paddington for a training course and had accidentally bought a return ticket (in advance from the machine at the station) valid for the following day. It was spotted when I couldn't get through the barriers at Reading (before...

    Merseyrail station car park 'offence'

Pepipoo specialise in LA parking offences. May I suggest the parking penalty sub-forum on Money Saving Expert? They're the gurus when it comes to penalty notices. https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/categories/parking-tickets-fines-parking
