LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

Yes- I told the revenue inspector I had come from Whittlesey...... It’s about the same fair to kx from Whittlesey or Peterborough anyway. So - I think this thread is dead now. I am not a fugitive on the run from a miscarriage of justice.

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

There is a ticket machine on platform 1 at Peterborough so you don’t need to exit the barriers to the ticket office. However, in the past staff have simply let me through the barriers to the ticket office when I’ve explained I’ve come via Whittlesey. On this occasion I simply got on the...

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

I’m not sure what the standard fair should have been, I’m just pleased it’s over and I paid 57 and not 157!

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

Firstly I want to say what a great forum this is and what a great source of information you all are regarding such ticket fiascos. Today I got the letter: I had already sent them a letter explaining that I could not buy a ticket at Whittlesey and that I thought I could buy a ticket on board...

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

I have just been and looked- the ticket machine at Whittlesea only accepts cards- no coins or notes. I wanted to pay cash - but alas I was the other side of the tracks anyway. When I articulated to the revenue inspector that I couldn’t buy a ticket on the train from Whittlesey and had rushed...

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

I don’t know what payment method the machine takes- they only installed it about a week ago - For safety reasons they shut the manned gates long before the train arrives- so walking from my direction to the station it’s basically impossible to purchase a ticket unless the conductor walks...

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

Thankyou for the swift replies. Whittlesea is a very small and old fashioned station with a manned level crossing over the nearby road. There is no ‘station’ as such -just one platform on either side/direction. Walking from my house to the station in order to catch the train to Peterborough...

LNER travel irregularity- no ticket onboard

I understand there are numerous similar threads however I thought it could be useful to post what the outcome is of my fiasco. I walked to my local station - Whittlesea, in order to travel to Peterborough station and then on to London Kings Cross. During the 11 minute train journey from...
