    Thameslink Services/Timetable from May 20th 2018

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-44311928 Meanwhile the Thameslink Twitter team appear to have dropped themselves in it. Another fine example of how not to do social media!

    GTR uniform selection

Just logged onto the online uniform ordering and can't see summer trousers for us on the Southern side of things. Would be nice to have some as the normal ones are way too warm! As for safety shoes, I believe they have to be safety rated S3 but that might have changed. I used to always have...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

ORR and ASLEF met today. The brown stuff may well and truly hit the fan tomorrow as any DOO imposed driver now needs training...

Ice disruption in Southern area 12/02/16

Gatwick to Earlswood was icy in patches. I followed a 442 that had stopped at Gatwick and really struggled to get any speed going afterwards. Was on single yellows all the way to Earlswood with lots of arcing and constantly getting loss of line messages on MITRAC. Yet after Redhill tunnel it...

    377 Joining and Splitting

A software update at some point appears to have fixed this issue (at least for us) as we quite often bring another portion in at a terminus, (Littlehampton on a regular basis) attach and can then correctly release from what is now an intermediate cab.

    Another strike threat-southern drivers

New offer on the table. Another referendum to take place.

Southern Trains major disruption due to conductor rail problem near Clapham Jn 30/04

Tell me about it. My green at Battersea Pier Junction went red just coach and half length before I got to it. No chance of stopping before it, TPWS activation and new underwear time! Lol

    Boring messrooms

Worthing - awful, awful mess room! Fortunately it's only Sundays that seem to have booked PNBs there. Few tables, hard plastic chairs and a sofa with a rip in it. Questionable kitchen facilities. I once had to work a train to Littlehampton and pass back for a minimum break. Another driver who...

    Southern Traincrew Depots

Barnham depot as I'm based there is as follows. Guards Core routes of Brighton to Portsmouth including Littlehampton and Bognor. Plus Arun Valley and Brighton main line to Victoria and London Bridge. Link one and two guards also sign from Farlington Junction to Southampton via Netley and...

    Great coupling

Southern's policy is very much stop, release doors, safety announcement, close doors and bang them together. Any other way and definitely tea and biscuit time! Question for SWT crews, is detachment done prior to door release like attachments?

    physical requirements for train driving

Pretty sure a driver at Horsham has a prosthetic leg. So don't see why not.

    Sussex storm

Teville stream runs under Worthing station as well which probably didn't help matters!

Attaching; detaching or moving trains. What's more dangerous?

Thanks :-) Must admit I do try to make attachments as gentle as possible, there is a certain knack to going from notch one to move, off to bang together and into step one brake to prevent the unit springing back. Occasionally it doesn't work and you slip straight into step one brake just as...

    Class 375 - PIS Announcement

If the route code is correct and functioning making an additional stop doesn't (usually) affect the PIS, on MITRAC it'll display "Off Route" until it gets to the next (correct) station on the list and carry on as normal. If as mentioned it gets stuck, or no code is available for the route then...
