Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

That's really disappointing, so we'll still be getting peak time 4 coach trains via Hounslow until December. Changing something so poor would be such an easy win, I would have hoped the 4 (or 5, if there are any left) coach diagrams would swap for a 701 sooner than December.

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Totally agree, I really hope this is going to be introduced as a quick win for GBR, presented as spending money for passenger benefit rather than giving First their "free money" With driver training now back, will this help the units which are not yet ready for passenger service be ready any...

    LNER Amex Deals

Possibly. The only reason I book through LNER is the discount, otherwise I'll generally use the forum site or SWR if uploading to smart card. The incentive is definitely working for me, but I'm surprised it's profitable for LNER

    LNER Amex Deals

Could be the free cards get the less generous offer and any card with an annual fee gets 10%?

    LNER Amex Deals

I got the 10% with Amex until 8th August too. Monzo is 8% for me, possibly because I never use it (because Amex has always been a better offer).

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

You started this thread in 2017, look at everything that has happened since! Some obscure issue will be found to delay things by another 5 years. Summer 2030 will still have 455's in daily service with the promise of new trains soon

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

Not as far as I'm aware. I'm also not really comparing like with like as rural South West France is always likely to have fewer EV's than inside the M25. The infrastructure compared to rural England though is light years ahead.

Do you think that the UK switching to electric vehicles is realistic?

I'm in the South of France this week, my rental is a Polestar 2. It is remarkable how much more advanced (and cheaper) their charging infrastructure is. I paid €0.55/ kWh at a motorway service station - it would be not far off double that in the UK. And yet, I don't feel there are anywhere near...

    West London Orbital

Why? There are about half the number of trains over it than there were 5 years ago

SWR Class 458 to be retained

You'd think so but it wouldn't be beyond SWR to shift the 701's elsewhere and do a press event telling everyone they are continuing the rollout on new routes. Ant idea which diagram? Hoping it's my morning train to work.

SWR Class 458 to be retained

Hopefully displacing a couple of 450 diagrams rather than 701's..

Heathrow closed all day Fri 21/3/25 - Aviation Impacts

Who is going to be on the hook for the majority of the cost of disruption today? Heathrow Airport Limited or the individual airlines?

Article - Train leasing companies’ profits investigated by regulator. But should the government “buy out” the ROSCO’s?

Perhaps it's all part of a government master plan to buy rolling stock on the cheap. 1) Leak a few stories about private companies profiteering at taxpayers expense 2) Drag out the 701 fiasco until the lease expires (next year?). Unlikely to be any real progress by then anyway given the gross...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

Failing upwards then. If it were me I'd leave it off my CV and say I'd been in prison rather than being associated with this fiasco.

Probably gearing up for another PR launch to give management a day out the office.
