And pelaw can be used. The network rail infrastructure with metro OHL has HSTs and AZUMAS using that.

Northern operate the depot but they don’t own the infrastructure. And given Northern itself is in public control… I don’t see how this wouldn’t be a viable solution.
Actually… why couldn’t some of the new metro cars be stored at Heaton Depot? Lots of room there, secure and would mean a fairly simple transfer to Gosforth when new stabling is complete?
