There's no need per se :p but the thought experiment of how to reconcile the two near-unconnected halves of the network was raised, so I was tossing ideas about.
As for potential benefits in this (improbable to fantastical) scenario, I did actually cover that after the post you replied to:
In...
Well, it wouldn't only benefit them - to be honest, I didn't even know those existed until very recently! It would potentially allow the creation of cheaper "Northern Only" tickets between various points in the northeast and North Yorkshire which currently are effectively served by two...
I reckon that if one were to attempt bridging the almost-total divide between the Northern services in the northeast with those elsewhere in the network (which as I noted on the forum a few days ago means that travelling solely by Northern services between the Whitby Line and...
The problems have also been affecting plastic railcards ordered online in the last month or so - as one can see from even a cursory trawl of Twitter :P and last time I checked, people were still having little to no luck contacting Railcard customer services for assistance.
I reported problems...
You're correct - to the extent that if one wished to (for instance) get the train between Whitby and York and only use Northern services, it would take over ten hours!
06:33 Whitby [WTB] >>> Middlesbrough [MBR] 07:56
08:35 Middlesbrough [MBR] >>> Newcastle [NCL] 09:53

Similarly, contrary to this message stating that TPE has ticket acceptance in place with LNER today......

Quite - especially when one considers the difference in price between an Airport Advance fare between NCL and MIA for two people with a Two Together Railcard and the equivalent walk-up fare is as much as £80 (our initial tickets were about £25 total, the ones we had to buy subsequently were a...
The problem is that the vast majority of people using the Newcastle-Airport and Middlesbrough-Airport TPE services in order to reach Manchester Airport will (as with my above account) have booked their train in advance, and hence a rather higher percentage than you imply will fall foul to these...
As I noted in the other thread, when a recent service from Newcastle to Manchester Airport was cancelled due to "a lack of train staff" two minutes before I was due to board it - much to the surprise of the TPE staff waiting for the train themselves - I was explicitly told by LNER staff in the...
Although my current home station is Newcastle, and I grew up with Darlington as my home station, I reckon my top five would have to be as follows:
York
Glasgow Central
Rannoch
Carlisle
Whitby
Westbound isn't much better - in the last few months I've noticed a LOT more of the TPE services departing Newcastle (both those for Manchester Airport and those for Liverpool) have been cancelled due to a lack of train crew, sometimes at very short notice; on one occasion in September I was...
...and also one of the most beautiful station exteriors and entrances, almost cathedral-like in design and feel, not to mention possibly the only major train station which forms the border wall for one side of a zoo!
Given the fact I intend to revisit Innsbruck sometime soon, I shall have to...
I have used them many times - most recently this time last year - and have always found them friendly, efficient and reliable; tickets ordered through them almost always arrive within 48 hours, even though they generally say it can take up to 5 working days.
