Well my divorce papers cited railways and railway photography as the grounds for unreasonable behaviour. This is the honest truth as I am sure some will find it hard to believe but it happened.

I can understand this totally.
My ex wife suggested football was unreasonable behaviour
She said to me "you love Villa more than me" I said "I love Birmingham City more than you"

OK OK the coat is over here

Unless it consistently put another person's life in danger (no more dangerous than visiting the supermarket), that surely can't be reasonable?

No, unreasonable behaviour is one of the four possible grounds for divorce. Putting people's lives in danger has nothing to do with it.

I think that's the first time I've seen you actually use the word "boyfriend" on here since this whole thing started!

Hey, I said "not boyfriend" and "bf" I'm sure they count...

Since worked out where I'm taking in him this summer, NYMR Steam Gala of some kind....

Gladly my other half doesn't care at all im intrested into railways or anything to do with them gladly.

I managed to drag her around Model Rail Scotland earlier this year, and she has to 'suffer' to use Voyagers to come down and see me.

Although i will be aiming to try and get her to go to the NRM though, or anything history based though.

Overal she has her intrests and i have mine and both take an intrest in each other.

My partner was skeptical about my interest in railways at first I will admit.

But after taking her to the NRM she opened her mind and I think she saw why I found railways so interesting, to the point now where any galas or bashes are Family trips with her and the kids.

Remember my first date with my current (I can't use the term on here), at the NRM York, explaining to him how a Deltic worked, and gaining a small audience of a couple of 40-50yo guys amazed at something, either a 20 something knowing how a deltic engine works, or that a 23 and 16 year old are out on 'a date' at the NRM. But they did seem transfixed, I'll stick with hoping it was my explanation of how it worked.
(I didn't notice the animation box thingey until I'd explained it in great detail on the cutaway)

Good it did :)

Mine just finds it funny really, which i don't mind at all. I have bored her before when on the SVR (She actually wanted to go to it) Which she also wants to go to Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway since it is very local to her with me :)

Good to hear that Nym as well. As i did explain to mine how steam locomotives worked and controls and so on and got a small crowd as well. (Previous times did that during an SVR gala at Bridgnorth just before 45110 was sent off to Barrow Hill)

Having been asked by the ex what I wanted to do for my birthday, and having foolishly assumed that this might be the one day of the year when I could get to do something I wanted to do, I suggested the Cotton Mill Express, and as he liked eating and drinking, thought he might enjoy it too (in First Class).

His response was along the lines of "Oh God, I'm not sitting on a train for four hours", and was one of the many reasons we are no longer together.

On a train...somewhere!
Haven't got a girlfriend at the moment, lots going on so I'm happy to muddle along alone for now! :)

A fair few of my friends are lasses though, and whilst they can't understand why I'm interested in railways and photography they do show an interest and definitely make use of my knowledge when it comes to journeys on the train!!

The hobby certainly offers an interesting conversation starter with the opposite sex

Ashame you had that. Some people are selfish and don't want to do what others want to.

Mine for my 21st was actually considering to take me on the bit of the Orient Express on this side or something similar for me, but would have cost to much.

For her i also have offered to go to concerts etc with her for bands/ groups she likes e.g. Westlife etc, but did mention would have to wear a Maiden shirt :P

Just remembering the first time my "Not boyfriend" came down to Manchester, spent about an hour waiting for his train sat on 8/9 at Piccadilly, discussing the relative merits of different motor drive systems with him sat kind of laying back in my lap leaning against a lamp post, lovely strange looks from platform 13, and memories of G4S barriering the platform on our way back and trying to PF us, "Prove we got off that train!" made them shut up...

Although not my patrtner, The person i take on trips is my Best mate, Daniel. At first I got him into trips by visiting cities. However now he is going a module of his masters degree on P-way engineering Im hoping that might be useful as a lever towards getting more trips... (maybe even a forum meet one day, if someone from NR is going? He hopes to one day work on railways in japan/malaysia)

my former partner had a passing interest in the railways, which I helped to develop. She now owns a model railway and even came on the west yorkshire challenge with me. We are no longer together.
The girl I am currently dating is not really interested in trains which is fine by me, shared hobbies are great (we both play guitar, she is amazing & I am passable) but I feel that sometimes having different hobbies is a good thing. Too much time with someone can burn you out, it can stifle you. I would hate to date a female version of myself, variety is the spice of life.

Quite, it's much the same over here, though I think it is a lot more accepted in older generations. I never breathed a word about what I do at weekends to anyone at high school. I still don't at college!

Exactly my feelings.

Wife is largely supportive of my interest, but that's easy as its mostly a theoretical diversion these days, and doesn't tend to intrude on our lives. We often spend an hour or so at Hest Bank though at weekends eating a burger, taking the sea air and watching the trains go by, and that seems to tick enough of the important boxes.

It will happen to me one day in the future too, so I'm perfectly prepared to believe it. I have to do a lot of my cranking undercover, so when I eventually get found out it it'll be curtains on the basis of serial deception. Eventually I'll be in Mallaig when I'm supposed to be at a meeting in Birmingham or something, and will be told to come home quickly for some sort of emergency. Uh-oh! It's all a bit like having an affair, but without the benefit of any shagging :(

There's no reason why you shouldn't! I've actually found that most people will have no problem, quite a few show an interest, but it certainly doesn't cause a problem. I do my thing, they do theirs. There's always a few pricks but you've just gotta ignore em...their problem not yours ;)

I'm very lucky that my wife is very into all things rail related. Her father was originally an engineer on the New York Central and retired from Amtrak about ten years ago when I first met her. She was a New Jersey Transit Cop back then and I met her in Secaucus NJ station when I asked her for directions! As I said she loves all things railways, goes with me to preserved railways & museums, helps me with my model railway layout in the scenics department (bought me a great Class 37 last week) and in fact has started on her own n guage layout too. We travel everywhere we can by train and she's quite happy reading and watching anything to do on the subject. She's not quite as obsessed as me though! lol!
