Hello chaps,

Was in runcorn on saturday, got off and noticed a set of points and a spur of single track which disappeared round a bend. seems to be a freight only line or a line to an old terminal?

Did a bit of google mapping and it does lead to an old refinery type place, goes down to a largeish set of some sidings, then there is a trackbed beyond that which goes further into the works.

Does anyone know if this line is still used regularly or not? I managed to look at the signal from the platform which gives the single line access to the main line and it was on and lighted, so it must be active to some extent or else that signal wouldn't be turned on?

cheers,

Bruce

That'll be the Folly Lane branch, down to the (former ICI) salt works. Still has paths for freight, mostly from Bredbury and Arpley.

Two trips a week to/from Warrington Arpley at present (chemical traffic
to Mossend and/or Sellafield).

Should be a big increase in traffic next Spring when the GMC 'binliners'
start running there instead of Roxby.
