With PRIV?

Are you happy to use Southern via Kensington Olympia?

The through PRIV fare is £20.70, this is valid on any operator via Kensington Olympia (it would be much more convenient to use the hourly Southern service, if the times suit, rather than faff about with London Overground).

It might be cheaper to use "split" tickets, but I am not so sure... it was more expensive to split at Clapham Junction, but you could try other places...

Providing they depart after 0930 on the Friday, I reckon the through fare from Chichester to Bletchley Off Peak Return (SVR) via Kensington Olympia £25.95 is the best ticket to get.

Trainscanbecheaper.info doesn't find any "splits" to make this journey cheaper.

For the distance, it's not a bad fare.

When you say "Sunday" do you mean this coming Sunday (19th)? If so, going via Kensington Olympia may not be possible

No Southern services between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction on Sunday 19 January 2014

Engineering work is taking place between Clapham Junction and Kensington Olympia closing all lines.

Southern services between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction will not run.

Passengers are advised to travel to London Victoria and use LUL services to London Euston changing onto London Midland services between London Euston and Watford Junction.

Leave Friday pm return Sunday, any ideas to make it cheaper.
There are Southern Advances from Chi to Bletchley from £5.30 (with the railcard) for going up on the Friday via Kensington Olympia.
Coming back the best bet would seem to be a Bletchley One day travel card £12.35 and then a Southern Advance from London Victoria or Southern Metro stations (from £3.30).
However be aware that all the routes up to London have been badly affected by the recent rain and as a result are likely to be badly affected by engineering on Sundays for the foreseeable future, expect at least one bus!

If using the hourly Southern Services (ie via Kensington Olympia) on Friday down to Clapham Junction or East Croydon and then beyond ....
... if no cheap advances are available or are unsuitable
... don't overlook their DaySave and All Network Downlander day tickets for on all Southern services (with some time restrictions).

Off-Peak DaySave £15
http://www.southernrailway.com/tickets-and-fares/ticket-types/daysave-off-peak/

All Network Downlander £17.50

Unfortunately doesn't get you between Bletchley and Watford Junction on a Sunday as that's the Northern terminus for the Sunday service :(

Ooops and isn't as cheap as Yorkie's return, but sometimes offers good value (eg especially the DaySave for groups of 3-4 people).
