At least NEx are getting on with rebranding; most of the local units in the west country haven't carried any branding since First took over the Wessex franchise over eighteen months ago.

there was still the odd set running round last week with a red stripe on, mainly just on the PCs/91s/dvts

Yes, they seem to have concentrated more on the coaches. I guess it's the only bit that the average passenger really takes in, as they don't really look at the PC/91/DVT that often.

It's the responsibility of the out-going TOC to remove its branding (in this case the lettering) and the in-coming TOC to apply its own (in this case the white stripe and the lettering). So it's GNER that's at fault, unless NXEC had agreed to do it for them.

First are finally getting their priorities right then instead of wasting money on branding.

I'd say that's not quite right, because though people do complain about reliability or whatever with FGW, the state of the fleet aesthetically also seems to be a big issue - the 153s in particular are dire (the 142s don't even deserve a mention).

I totally agree that the trains should look presentable too but that's just cleaning in most cases and not a full scale paint-job.
