PG/VG/flavourings/aromas safe for skin absorption, eye drops, ear drops, nasal sprays, throat sprays, dental products... but the moment they're inhaled it's bad?

All the ingredients I use (I make my own e-liquid) have Ph. EU. licenses or are food grade. If such things can be absorbed into the bloodstream from consumption (i.e eating) with no ill effects then I've no concern about absorption through inhalation.

It's the combination of the method of delivery and the dose that is important, and toxicity of a substance can be described using any of oral/inhaled/absorption, and these values will not necessarily be the same.

To take alcohol as an example, if you inhale (aerosolised) alcohol vapour, it will go directly to the bloodstream, whereas ingesting an equivalent amount is much safer, as it would pass through your stomach and liver, so some is metabolised before it reaches your bloodstream

It is a lot easier when you're ingesting alcohol to know how much you've consumed - harder when inhaled, and also bypasses the bodies natural defence mechanism against alcohol poisoning, which is to vomit.

Indeed and eating food containing trace amounts of heavy metals is very different to inhaling them.

It is possible that banning the use of e-cigarettes in places where you wouldn't be allowed to smoke real cigarettes removes the unknown risks of passive "smoking" for us non-smokers.

But allowing their use will hopefully encourage more smokers to switch to them for real cigarettes, bringing significant health benefits - and overall this will probably be a net gain.

I say this as someone who smoked from 1998 or 1999, and gave up shortly after the smoking ban came in north of the border in 2006 - and as someone who has (literally) watched a loved one die of lung cancer, and is therefore keen on thing which encourage people to stop smoking.

Perhaps E-Cigs should be allowed on Sleeper Services, as the length of journey and more importantly time without a smoke, will represent the greatest withdrawal symptoms for a smoker.

In your own compartment ?

People probably already surreptitiously do :p

sorry , the bans on e-cigs are TOBACCO NAZISM gone mad ! they're a great idea for alternatives to real fags....as an ex-smoker , I've no problems with them , and I have tried a few "drags" from various flavoured e-cigs and they're very nice....

all this scaremongering, people are more likely to be harmed by diesel fumes in a rail station or the fumes from traffic and their own cars

they're a whole universe away from real cigarettes......
