Had a look at the anti fracking groups propaganda for the Fylde and as expected it's full of scaremongering tales from the USA, lots of possibly, if, could, etc Most of the "accidents" in the US have been put down to cowboy operators and lack of proper regulation.
So as I have stated before, let's get a couple of long term test drilling sites going, evaluate them thoroughly and then see if there is a cause to ban it. Until then these groups should shut up until we have proper facts from operations in this country

The whole anti-fracking argument is rather boring really. There is far more danger from a conventional well "blowout" caused by overpressure of hydrocarbons similar to the GoM Maconda disaster.

Unconventional "shale gas" drilling is inherently safer given that for the gas/oil to escape, it is necessary to fracture the rock. For a well blowout in a traditional gas/oil reservoir, all it takes is for a miscalculation to cause significant environmental damage.

Hydraulic fracturing is a widely used technique and is well understood. A bunch of lunatics at Greenpeace haven't got a clue, so I wouldn't believe any of the rubbish they spout. Simply fact is, the UK needs more gas and we have a large resource sat beneath us.

I take it you refused to vote in the EU referendum then and wanted us to leave so that you could see what it's like before making up your mind.

Sorry what relevance is that to this thread ! You miss the point completely, so i will reiterate the point again, we have no long term test results for fracking in the UK, the logical step would be to sanction a small number of sites and with relevant regulation and testing, evaluate the results and then see if it is as dangerous as the misinformed anti-fracking lobby say it is.

So how do you think new technologies, products etc evolve ? through R&D and testing

Have you missed that there's already been tests and the results of which are that fracking may have risks? I thought R&D would be done to assess whether it can be done at the same time as removing those risks, not doing the same thing again over a longer period and hoping no risks are exposed this time therefore declaring it's safe?

Way to go completely off topic

What if I voted remain and support fracking trials?

Doing anything has risks even doing nothing has risks, have you thought what might happen if one of the tankers carrying liquefied gas from the gulf were to collide with say a cruise ship in the South Western Approaches? Or how many pensioners might freeze if we had no gas one winter, because of trouble in the Middle East?
