I am just wondering what are the 450s that i sometimes see passing through Horsley? I travel to Horsley very regularly (at least a few times every week) and quite often in the evening i see a 450 passing through non stop. Is this a diverted train or an ECS working? I cant seem to find any information on Real Time Trains.

There are a small number of peak Portsmouth to Waterloo services that run Guildford to Surbiton that way, (and vice versa), in the am peak up direction it is a way of reducing crossing conflicts at Woking Junction.

So the basic answer is that they are in the normal timetable, of course they can also add diversions as well, if needed on the day.

You can use realtime trains to find SWT passing services like this, you need to select "passes only" in the "services" drop down box.

If memory serves, there were (are) one or two ECS workings from Guildford - Waterloo in the evening so you may be seeing those.

There are. The realtimetrains link I just posted shows 3 x ECS as well as the 6 x through passenger services. 5G96 and 5G64 are 450 operated ECS.

ECS 12 car 450 Guildford to Waterloo via cobham...Initially runs from Waterloo to Guildford via Woking.

The two ECS movements are 12-car 450s. The Portsmouth services are all 444s.

Many thanks for all of the info. Much appreciated. I will try to get a photo of a 450 passing through now that i know the times. I have never had enough time to get my phone or camera out in the past. I never realised that 444s pass through so i will look out for those as well.

Also a bit off topic but are any 450s booked to operate on the London Waterloo - Epsom - Dorking and London Waterloo - Epsom - Guildford and London Waterloo - Cobham - Guildford routes any more? I know it used to happen sometimes a few years ago.

Not at the moment, but they can occasionally turn up in place of a 455.

I saw this tweet which someone tweeted today which shows a 450 at Stoneleigh on a service to Guildford.

Does anyone know which service this was? And did it work any other London Waterloo - Epsom - Dorking or London Waterloo - Epsom - Guildford or London Waterloo - Cobham - Guildford services as well today (i think those routes interwork)?

Was the 0809 London Waterloo-Guildford via Epsom, returning as the 0934 Guildford-London Waterloo via Cobham. That was all it did. A 455 had failed on its way to Waterloo so a 450 was used for a round trip whilst another 455 was found. On Saturdays a spare 4-car 450 sits spare in Platform 17 at Waterloo all day so it is the most likely day to get one on Suburban services.

Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. I imagine the passengers like it when 450s are used instead of 455s. Both are nice trains but the 450s have the extra benefits of toilets / wifi / plug sockets / 1st class on them.
