Hi everyone,

I've been searching for trainee train driver opportunities with the TOC's that come from/through my area which include London Midland, Chiltern, Virgin and Cross Country. I'm in Worcestershire by the way.

There is nothing (that I could see) for trainee drivers, rather there is more for qualified drivers.

Am I going about his the wrong way, is it the time of year being just after Xmas and New Year celebrations, or, do I just need to be patient and keep looking and wait for something to come up?

I have no experience with railways but after finding myself unexpectedly redundant I find myself now chasing a childhood dream of being a train driver after following a different career path.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Biggest advice is just check their vacancies page every day, there's no set time for things coming up they just appear but can also disappear just as quick as demand is high.

Good luck

Checking every day is extremely obsessive and quickly lends itself to doom and gloom.

Check this website every other day because someone will inevitably be searching obsessively every day and / or register with the TOC's so that you're emailed the jobs as and when they come up.

If you are currently unemployed, Ned, you should be looking for another job rather than wait for a train driver role. The process can take up to two years!

you are going about it the right way,
if they need someone they will advertise but with it being a good job and with good retention with the companies your looking at it doesn't happen very often, just a game of patients and hope, then you'll be able to play the game of long recruitment processes :D
