Hi all,

I've been invited to an assessment centre for a qualified driver role with TPE.

I really just wanted to know what the assessments involve and what I can expect to be doing on the day. Is there anyone here who has recently transferred to TPE who could give any insight?

Many thanks!

Hi all. I have my assessment day for a qualified role at FTPE next week and just wanted some further insight into what happens.
I heard it was a group assessment and driver manager interview after that, but that seems like false information now after reading this.
What do you have to write a report on? Is it just to see how much detail you can retain and critical information?
I have never written a repair slip but on our work iPads we have emailed faults and delays with our units so is this the same?
I am not looking forward to the scaat test again, I did it about 4 years and couldn't stand it back then...

Thanks for any info on what the day has in store for me...

That is it. Naturally they want a higher pass mark on the SCAAT so I would practice that if it's something your not fond of.

It's not even a day, more like a couple of hours and anyone already working as a Driver should have nothing to worry about. The written tests are something you do every time you book a fault or write a report whether it's on paper or a tablet. Make sure you know your rules and have prepared for the usual job interview you'll find in most walks of life.

Hi. Thanks for the replies. I can't get into our rules book at the moment as it's on the iPad and the password is broken. But I'll get onto it and have a read up next week then.
It's a long way to go for a few hours and do you know after the DM interview how long it is until you might get offered a job, or if they decide on the day?
I am traveling up from Surrey to Manchester for it so I am hoping it's worth the trip.

Hard copy rule books or RSSB website.

I hate to pull the negative from the post but If I had put in for a position that requires relocation I wouldn't be worried about a few hour each way trip. Atleast they're doing the assessment and interview together this time round otherwise you may have had to make multiple journeys.

Without making the effort you won't know if it's worth it and if you are unsuccessful you've gained valuable experience

Oh no I am well prepared for the trip, I just hope it'll be worth the time spent going up. I didn't mean it to come across negative, it's going to be a 4am start but it is the job I have been waiting for.
Thanks for the advice about the rulebook online. Totally forgot to go and check that out. That's my weekend reading sorted...

Leeds for me on Tuesday, been 13 years or so since I've done anything like this!

What depot are you applying for? I was going to attend Leeds on Tuesday but it would mean taking 2 ad-hoc days off so thought I would use the 1 day and go to Manchester instead

I've also got an invite to assessment next week. Could someone enlighten me as to the Terms/conditions for TPE drivers as its not too clear from the vacancy, which states base salary £49990, and a 37 hr working week. ASLEFs page says £50,833 and a 35 hr week. As the working week is flexible, is there some kind of annualised hours or annualised number of duty days agreement?

In addition, how much leave do you get, and how does it work given some weeks might have 4 shifts in them, and others 5? Are shift and leave swaps allowed? Thanks.

Newcastle. Though I believe there's a waiting list so if I'm lucky enough to pass I'll more than likely join a holding pool - I'd imagine.

Both are right and wrong at the same time. 35h week, Sundays inside, salary £49,990. 31 days leave (1 week Spring, 3 weeks Summer and 1 week Winter. 8 floating days). Swaps are permitted.

Hi all. Just like to say thank you to everyone who replied to my questions earlier. I got offered a job at Scarborough so that wasn't in my room 2 which were York and Newcastle.
Can anyone answer a few questions on Scarborough.
What are the shifts like? Earliest start and latest finish?
Stock and routes driven?
Depot size and location?

Thanks again. My family and I are looking forward to starting our new life in the North East!

Traction is 158 and 185. Pretty sure Scarborough still covers a little Northern work. Class 68 and mk5A should be on the horizon in the near future.

Scarborough to Manchester Airport and Oxford Road via Leeds, not sure if they sign to Liverpool. The 158 work takes them to Hull I think.

I hope no one minds me digging up an old thread, but they are still advertising for qualifieds..

I'm interested in any information about their Sheffield depot. What routes and traction? I would imagine cl. 185 on Sheffield - Manchester Airport/Cleethorpes, but are there any other routes this depot sign? Is there much shed work?

It looks like it's a 35 hr week with Sundays in (as above) - is it still a 5 day week? How are the rest days arranged?

I'd be grateful for any other info...feel free to pm me if that suits.

Digging up an old thread here - but hoping for some info on Manchester Pic.

If there are any current drivers please could you drop me a pm if you don't mind me asking you a barrage of questions. Thanks.
