Hi, Not sure whether this is the right area of RailUK to ask this (admins please move if not), but was wondering if anyone knows what the best way of getting from Taunton to Bishops Lydeard for the Spring Gala on Saturday?

Would it be easier to try to get to Norton Fitzwarren?

Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

I don't really want to rely on Buses of Somerset 28 if I can help it.

You only have the 28 bus service, perfectly acceptable, or taxi normally. Few years ago we had a temporary rail connection, so we could view the start of the Norton Fitzwarren turning triangle and virtual quarry of used ballast store. Really worth a visit, or take a direct rail tour, like the Quantock Intruder on 26th May with Clan Line from Paddington with loads of pick up points. Have fun..

Bus is only option , other than taxi. Why were you wanting to go norton fitwareen? You are aware that trains don’t leave from there for passenger service

Thanks for your help on this. I relied on 28 to and from Bishops Lydeard. I thought it might have been easier to walk from Norton Fitzwarren into Taunton, but only realised on the day that you couldnt board or alight there.

Bus 28 is every 30 minutes weekdays, hourly Saturdays, every 1.5 hours Sundays, which on weekdays is a lot better, believe it or not, than the equivalent after the BR line closed. It is diverted vis the WSR station at Bishops Lydeard during WSR operating hours, which helps as otherwise there is quite a busy country main road to cross, the station in best GWR fashion not being particularly close to the village. It does not enter Norton Fitzwarren but turns off just before reaching it. Be certain you are at the correct bus stop at Taunton station.

You cannot board or alight at Norton Fitzwarren on a Gala day or indeed any other day which we operate there.
