I was under the impression the station was to have 2 platforms going by artist impression images. But seem will only be 1.

Is a second platform just a "future option" etc

Second platform is built with the station, AIUI. Just waiting for (eventually) it to be joined by a track alongside it.

The truth lies somewhere in between: the bridge, lift and access to Farmer Ward Road have been built. The original right-of-way bridge has been tidied up and given a lick of paint and new lighting. The second platform exists only as a limited area built to the correct level around the lift and stairs, with no platform face. If doubling ever happens, presumably this would include building the actual platform. I'll see if I can dig out a photo.

The video in post #107, at about 7m 40s, shows what you are describing.

Judging by a post from the All The Stations Team on Twitter, they suggest the opening has been pushed back another week to be the first service on the 5th March

Looks like it's still delayed:

https://www.kenilworthweeklynews.co...te-still-unconfirmed-council-admits-1-8411574

The opening date for Kenilworth's new station has still not been confirmed, Warwickshire County Council admitted today (Monday). The £13.6 million station's opening has been delayed four times. And while station operator West Midlands Railway had tweeted the station may open on Monday March 19, it said that was the earliest possible date. Warwickshire County Council could not confirm when the station would open when asked today. A spokesman said: "Warwickshire County Council is working with the rail industry to finalise the opening date for Kenilworth Station and the beginning of the new services. This date will be confirmed as soon as possible." When the station opens, it will run an hourly service between Coventry and Leamington. There will be no service on Sundays initially.

Nice to see Mark still doing the cleaning business, decent chap.

As for the station opening - anyone want to guess a date? I’m saying May.

Errr, Smethwick!
It was mentioned very briefly this morning on BBC1's regional Midlands breakfast news bulletin that the Bromsgrove electrification has been delayed again and that Kenilworth's opening was postponed until ''after Easter" though no source was stated for either announcement.
Meanwhile, a local newspaper reports one man's concerns that figures for passenger forecasts at Kenilworth do not add up, a claim denied by Warwickshire County Council: http//www.kenilworthweeklynews.co.uk/news/wall-of-silence-from-county-council-over-kenilworth-station-viability-1-8415910
Maurice was at the Kenilworth Community in Action event in February where he said the county council's joint managing director, Monica Fogarty, claimed there would be 445 journeys per day and 275,000 per year. He was confused by these figures, as 445 journeys per day multiplied by 365 days in a year equals 162,425 journeys per year. After this, he submitted two Freedom of Information requests to Warwickshire County Council asking how passenger numbers used to justify the station's construction were calculated, and a copy of the council's budget for Kenilworth Station....
To summarise, he is concerned at errors in daily vs annual figures in documents supplied under an FoI request, claims figures rely on estimates made before double-tracking through Kenilworth was cancelled, calls the scheme 'a vanity project' and wants a National Audit Office probe. The council replies that the project is ''on budget' including contingencies but did not take the opportunity to clarify an opening date.

The delay to the opening of Kenilworth Station's is down to Warwickshire County Council, the rail regulator has confirmed.
In correspondence seen by the KWN, Joanna Whittington, chief executive of the rail regulator Office for Road and Rail (ORR), said the station's opening can only be authorised when Warwickshire County Council gives the ORR 'all the information' it requires on the station's safety.
Looks like the council is at least partly to blame for the delays?

as far as I'm aware there are still a few things awaiting final sign off before we can start operating. No official date as yet but it be past the Easter weekend now I believe. As soon as we have anything 100% confirmed we will let everyone know.

3:50 PM - Mar 12, 2018

It said the council had not yet done this, and that the council had not advised the ORR when it would like train services to start.

This is despite Warwickshire County Council claiming it was the Department for Transport that had held up the project in a statement last December.

It was later announced by the council that the station would open at some point in February, with joint managing director announcing an opening date of Monday February 26 at the Kenilworth Community in Action event.

After that date was not met, the council has not yet revealed why the station's opening has been delayed or when services are likely to start.

Network Rail confirmed its share of the work for the station had been completed in December last year, and station operators West Midlands Railway also confirmed they have been ready to go since December as well.

Rail enthusiast and freelance rail journalist Fraser Pithie, a Kenilworth resident, was highly critical of the council after this revelation.

He said: "The persistent stonewalling of residents and media enquiries by the county council has been indefensible. We have it confirmed that it’s been Warwickshire County Council all along who are responsible for the failure of our new railway station to open in December last year.

“There are serious questions that require answers, not least why the county council at its highest level, chose not only to deny responsibility for the failure to open on time but sought to blame other stakeholders. It's reprehensible."

Speaking on BBC Coventry and Warwickshire this morning (Tuesday), the county council's joint managing director Monica Fogarty said the station was 'very close' to opening.

She added: "The station is complete and is physically ready for operation. We are today (Tuesday) submitting that information to the ORR.

"In good faith we cannot issue a date (for opening) until the ORR have signed it off."

The £13.6 million project has been beset by delays since work began to build the station in July 2016.

The original opening date was December 2016, then August 2017, then December 2017, and February 2018.

West Midlands Railway has tweeted the station will not open before Easter.

When the station does open, it will run an hourly service between Leamington and Coventry. There will be no services on Sunday.

If you're having trouble with that change adblockers to uBlock Origin btw.

The cleaning firm who have done the post-construction clean on the station have posted a PDF full of photos of the facilities. http://www.wcscommercial.co.uk/wp-c...Clean-Kenilworth-Train-Station-March-2018.pdf

As far as I can tell from the pictures, that does look like a very nicely designed and attractive-looking station. The lifts a certainly a step up in external design from what you usually see in new station lifts. Also nice to see there is evident passive provision for later doubling/a second platform.

Yes, nice to see a break from the 'norm' of most new station designs. Hopefully there will be no slippage beyond the May TT change as then it would start to become a little farcical.

Hopefully the residents of Kenilworth will come out in force and use it, and the service can be extended up to Nuneaton and perhaps enhanced to 2tph over the coming years.

If nothing else those commuting from Leamington to Coventry and vice-versa should find it of benefit given the crowded and not particularly punctual long-distance Voyagers they currently have to put up with.

Anyone that wants London will still go to Warwick Parkway in my opinion and Tile Hill for Brum.

The new Enhancements Delivery Plan update says the infrastructure was authorised for passenger use in December.

Has there been much local interest raised in the local newspapers by prospective passengers? Now we are well into April 2018, what was the last official opening date given?

Yes. The local press have been interested but my impression is that they are just not getting updates, so it is no news.
