Arriva Rail North - Customer Service Assistant (Despatch);
(x 4 posts) Manchester Victoria.

Closing Date: 23/03/2018.
Salary: £18,351pa to £20,207pa after 6 months in the role.

ALSO...

Customer Liaison Assistant (x 4 posts) Manchester Victoria.
Closing Date: 23/03/2018.
Salary - £18,351pa rising to £19,409pa.

I'm assuming this role is a generic customer service role helping passenger in and around the station.
HINT: I don't see what harm it would do to apply for both positions with ARN, shows willingness to join the railway...

If all these vacancies are for the same organisation, please consider posting them in the same thread to save clogging up the forum with un-necessary posts.

I applied previously for a dispatcher role but didn’t make the final sift to get invited to interview. I passed the verbal reasoning tests etc previously.

However they have changed the way you apply now and you can’t upload just a CV.

I have applied for one of these jobs and it’s been an experience in its self. It appears when I submit my answers it’s cutting it off even though I’ve got enough characters left. I went through it before submitting it all was ok. Go back and checked it’s cut the end of my answer off. I called them to let them know and said I would have to withdraw my application and apply again. I hope this don’t hinder my application as I’ve had to set up a new account!

I had mine felt the interviewer was inexperienced though. They literally asked me 4 questions. The person scribbing didn’t say a word except introduce himself at the beginning. I answered all the questions asked but they never asked me to elaborate or ask any additional questions. They did ask about notice period and time off but I’m not sure if that’s just a standard thing though. I notice they never had my application in front of them either which I thought was odd, I expected them to ask me questions about its contents.

In order to achieve equality during the recruitment process Northern's interviews have to be conducted with all candidates being asked the same questions. This means that information in the application is only used as part of the sifting process. It also means that it is important to use the opportunity to ask your own questions at the end of the interview to try and underscore any information in your application that you think reinforces your overall application. Easier said than done! Given the growing importance of equality issues generally I would expect more and more large organisations to conduct their recruitment process in a similar way.

Yeah I asked questions at the end with regards to training to the role and progression.

New Vic dispatchers started earlier this week.

What’s that N-word that “used to” rule railway recruitment?

There a couple of people coming on with no connections to the railway but a few already worked for Carlisle/STM and in regards to WCML, clearly on the railway its not what you know but who you know and having a connection inside (isn't supposed to) but certainly does help!
