GWR Ticket booking - reservation trouble

I'm planning a West Country trip from the 5-11th July, so plan to get the train out on the 5th from Maidstone to Taunton, where I plan to stay, then the reverse on the 11th. I'm also planning to take my bike down for use on some of trip.

However I've tried making reservations for both seats and a bike, and whatever combination I choose the site flags no seats for chosen preference (window airline) or for a bike, in spite of this being over a month away and in the past I've successfully reserved bike space as close as 5 days before travel. :s :frown: Does anyone know if there is a technical issue, or if it turns out there is a surge of bike travellers (and travellers in general) at these times?

Looking under GWR, for "London to West of England" reservations are not open for 9-12 July, it is unclear to me if that should actually read "Between London and the West of England" i.e. in both directions.

I'd try calling GWR.

As it’s midweek, might it be that NR hasn’t confirmed the timetable yet because of possible work between Reading and Newbury?

I've just looked and yes National Rail says there is engineering work between Theale and Newbury, which I presume is electrification based because midweek engineering work all day is otherwise unusual. Presumably trains will run non-stop round via Bristol in this case.

On phoning GWR he said that time isn't available yet and thinks they maybe next Friday, so may try then
