Hello all,

I was wondering if someone with experience would be able to give some reletive information regarding applying for what’s now LNER as a qualified driver?

In general what’s the process like? Do LNER request all drivers to re-sit the psychometrics?

I was told last year, admittedly when it was VTEC, that they considered the psychometrics that I sat with them valid for 4 years. Whether that is the same for psychometrics sat with another TOC I couldn’t say for sure but I’d like to think so. They didn’t required an enchanced standard at the time I sat the tests. Hope that’s of some help.

Thank you, it is indeed a help.

I’m wanting to drive for LNER however I am only just passed my 1st year as a qualified driver, driving out of Leeds.

Do you know if they only take qualifieds with X amount of experience?

Couldn’t say, sorry.

I know the next depots likely to have a need for drivers (both trainee/qualified) will be Newcastle and Edinburgh due to those regions having drivers with an older average age profile.

You'd find it hard to go anywhere, not just LNER, without having finished your 2nd year PQA

Trainee recruitment curtailed last year, and newly trained drivers reportedly being allocated to "spare" links, due planned extra services not being operated. I think you may be safely out of PQ, before anything happens.
As for the process, it's a new operator, so who knows? Just keep your record clean.
