Went to Rugby this afternoon, and I noticed that railway "private parking" signs were displayed along what appears to be a public road (on the other side of which is the Stagecoach bus depot). Is it unadopted?
Railway Terrace, off Church Street
This street was built by the Midland Counties Railway to provide access from the town to the second of the railway stations.
Correct.Looks like it may well be Network Rail property, or at least the section adjacent to the station, as it was built by a railway company.
Correct.
The corner (or so) down to the main road is owned by the Railway - the whole road.
Part of Ridgmont Road on the west side of St Albans City station is railway property but also serves non-railway properties along it as well as one of the station carparks. Local highways light the footpath, but BR some time ago separated their part from the rest of the road as they could not agree how to share the maintenance costs with the highways authority, and thus objected to the general public using it as a short cut to and from the station.Cheers - interesting and surprising. Are there many cases like this where a "station approach" is in fact railway property despite appearing for all the world like an adopted public road?
