On VOSA today First also cancelled the 340 Hyde to Oldham which is a tendered TfGM evening contract together with the 353/354 Carrcote/Mossley to Ashton which is another TfGM contract if memory serves me correctly which runs during the day.
It is Stagecoach who have cancelled the Sunday/Bank Holiday services not First. Cheers

Was the termination of the 369 route from Stockport - Wythenshawe - Manchester Airport by Stagecoach a direct result of originally extending some 330 services from Ashton-under-Lyne - Stockport to Manchester Airport?

Will the 369 route now be reinstated?

The 369 went partially as a result of Metrolink abstracting customers from the Wythenshawe - The Cornishman - Airport section of the route, partly because the Wythenshawe - Heald Green - Cheadle Hulme section of route wasn't hugely busy, so got cut from 4 bph to 3bph, and partially because of the 330.
Given that the 330 is being directly replaced by the new X30 on this section, the reinstatement of the 369 isn't going to be on the cards.

There is still proposed to be a route to the airport, but the 330 in its current incarnation is being split at Stockport, with the Stockport to Airport runs being renumbered to X30, so I suspect the 369 won't be reinstated.

The 368 currently runs at 15 minute intervals on weekdays.

Looking at the last published timetable for the 368 route from Wythenshawe to Stockport on Monday to Fridays, from 0700 to 1000, the service is every 20 minutes, then from 1000 to 1600 the service is every 15 minutes, then from 1600 to 2018 the service is every 20 minutes. After that, an hourly tendered service runs. So the rush hour morning and afternoon peak usage services only run at a 20 minute frequency.

It appears that the evening 368 tendered services will be reverting back to Stagecoach from Manchester Community Transport from 28th April

Bus services in the peak periods are slower due to traffic congestion, so are scheduled to take longer. Thus fewer services can be run with the number of vehicles allocated to the service than during the daytime, hence the drop in peak hour frequency. Compared to the situation 30+ years ago, far fewer workers use buses for commuting, whereas free bus passes have meant that weekday daytime usage by pensioners has not declined quite so much. The concept of rush hour extras, typically in Manchester with the suffix "x", appears to have disappeared on most routes.

Stagecoach recently appear to have bought a lot of new double-deck buses for use in southern Manchester, rather than single deck vehicles. I am puzzled why, given the relatively low usage of buses (other than on selected corridors such as Wilmslow Road), as reflected by the widespread reduction in routes/frequencies over recent decades.

Stagecoach haven't been using single deckers in South Manchester for most of this decade as far as I can tell. Last ones I remember are Magic Bus 47/48.

I made a bus journey last Friday from Altrincham to Wythenshawe Hospital (which is in south Manchester) and back, using Stagecoach route 11 - there was a relatively empty double deck bus on the outbound journey, and a single deck bus for the return trip.

In 2019, does "South Manchester" still only mean south of the municipality called "Manchester", and therefore excludes Trafford and Stockport districts, or does it now mean "south of Greater Manchester", in the same way that "South London" has long been universally used instead of "South of Greater London"?

You had the 84 which was a mix of singles and doubles, and as noted above, routes into Wythenshawe such as the 11, 11A and 368 which have some singles.
You also have the 171 and 172 which, last I checked, were majority single deck

It also looks like the 68 evening services have had a temporary reprieve. Same can't be said for 561/562 and 507 unfortunately.

K

Cheers 'Kahuna47'. I didn't spot that one. Looks like the number of Solos operated by First will reduce.

Go North West have started to register their services from 2nd/3rd June on the DVSA website today. The date of transfer was previously advised by 'Kahuna47' on another thread.

One notable change in July 2019 TfGM timetable updates is that from Sunday, 21st July, the 313 Stockport to Grove Lane, Cheadle Hulme, service will be extended to Manchester Airport, by continuing downwards to the roundabout on the Handforth border and from there, using the new A555 road to the airport. Services said to be every 30 minutes during the day Monday to Saturday and every 60 minutes in the evenings Monday to Saturday, on Sundays and on Bank Holidays.

Of course, this will give much of the Cheadle Hulme area a direct airport link, that they lost when the 369 service was discontinued, but residents in Heald Green will still be without a regular through daytime service to the airport.

Other than the frequent train service from Heald Green, of course.

Heald Green station is situated on the border between Heald Green and Manchester and it would still require a 368 bus journey being made to reach the railway station from the eastern parts of Cheadle Hulme along Turves Road and Etchells Road then along the entire length of Finney Lane in Heald Green.

It is quite a long walk the full road length along Finney Lane in Heald Green from the Griffin Hotel at the junction with B5358 to Heald Green railway station, as I am sure that you are already aware.

A further option is to change from the 368 to the 43 at the Broadoak Road stop on Poundswick Lane. That enables the journey to be made on a Stagecoach day ticket.
