Where I am, Scunthorpe, the two bus companies we have, Stagecoach and Hornsbys charge a flat fare of 50p per journey for dogs.

The last time I took a dog on the bus I was just waved on - the Stagecoach website says that a fare may be payable depending on the local operator, but I suppose it depends on how dog-friendly the driver is :) Back in Scottish Bus Group days it was quarter fare.

Not heard of Stagecoach North Scotland charging, same goes with First Aberdeen, typically it's just at the drivers discretion and provided there isn't another dog already on the bus, however i suspect the latter again is down to how well behaved the dogs are and drivers discretion.

I seem to remember Lothian in Edinburgh used to charge for dogs (except for guide dogs) but this no longer happens, not sure when the dog fare was scrapped....

Does anyone know of operators who charge for dogs the four legged kind lol going to blackpool for weekend and checking day ticket prices and they charge for dogs a day rover £1 :lol:.

In Reading, RB will charge you £1 for a doggy day ticket. I have tried to use the family day ticket to cover family plus dog before and unfortunately it doesn't work, the dog doesn't count as a person.

If you had a dog that could talk, I wonder if they would count it as a person then?

Was standing near, not at, a Reading bus stop waiting to cross the road with my two dogs. Bus stopped and the driver said " you're not getting on with them". Mind you, they are two Great Danes.

Most operators in West Yorkshire stopped charging for dogs around 1990 - I had a friend who used to have a half fare Day Rover ticket for his dog (he had a student MetroCard) - or they counted as one of 3 half fares on a Family Day Rover.

East Yorkshire charges 50p for dogs apart from small dogs, what constitutes a small dog is up to drivers discretion.

I can imagine on some of the buses (the single deckers and older Dennis buses we used to have on the 23/24) the dogs would get wedged between the driver's cab and the seating area by the luggage area. Now that would be a sight :D:D :D

This is Reading, so we're pretty sheltered from anything unusual/different here so the driver would probably have a f*cking heart attack if you brought a talking dog onto the buses , let alone be able to think about fares. However,my Labrador puppy can make a few noises that sound a little like words, "nang" being her favourite. I'm half tempted to try it.

We’re happy for anyone to use our buses, even our range of four-legged friends. We just need them to behave and be conscious of other customers around them. We charge a dog fare of 70p for any ride on all our buses.
