Where does the training for gwr mainline take place? At the depot you’ve applied for?
Cheers

I fill out the application online do the SJT assessment then get an email saying I’m unsuccessful every time.
The chances are then you’re not giving the answers they want on the SJT, seeing as there’s another fairly pointless assessment on the careers site after that initial one. If you’re failing that then you wouldn’t get through for any other position either as it’s the exact same for anything applied for with GWR.

I’m currently a manoeuverer (depot driver) and have the final interview for the Westbury Talent Pool as I’ve already been through all the assessments. Only applied 2 weeks ago

I completed the online assessments and have heard nothing back since. Does this, more then likely, mean ive been unsuccessful? I am new to all of this!

So today I’ve been offered a position in the talent pool <:D<:D

Well done :)

I unfortunately received the "We'd like to thank you for taking the time to attend your interview...", and did not go through. I did have a feeling I flopped it, having spent the entire train journey back home thinking "I could've said this" or "I could've said this differently".

I won't stop there obviously, having passed all assessments, which are valid for 5 years, I will keep on trying, and making sure I'm prepared even better than previously.

Congratulations again!

Sorry to hear this. But yes, your assesments are valid for upnto 5-years so you’re definitely at an advantage! (Between 1 and 5 years depending on the TOC).

So for me this seems to be moving very quickly!

Applied mid February, interview on Tuesday, told I was in the pool yesterday and given a start date for the July course today!

Buzzing in a understatement!

Anybody heard anything recently from GWR? I did email recruitment and they said they were waiting on an update.

What stage are you at? Have you done the psychometrics or had any interviews yet? I’m internal and had already done all of the assessments as I currently drive on a depot and I signed my contract for Westbury a few weeks ago, it all depends what stage you’re at.

The first group of us are 4 weeks into our training, I know a lot of internals have heard and are waiting in the pool for their start dates, if you’re external I assume there’s gonna be a fairly long wait unfortunately.

Hey everyone, I thought I'd post a few things for people who are just getting into this -they might find it useful, maybe even helpful

Luckily and thankfully I've been accepted into the Westbury talent pool happy dayz and so have these pearls of wisdom

The whole process is weird and initially is extremely frustrating, you definitely need to have a LOT of patience. Some people will progress quicker than others depending on their performance.

If you've applied for a trainee position for a talent pool and get accepted, you're just on a waiting list, it's not a job offer until you've passed the medical and received a letter and start date.

In order to pass the initial tests and before the face to face interview, they are looking for a several major attributes. The tests are psychometric. They have been designed by psychology experts. In a nutshell your answers will reveal an awful lot about you as an individual. You cannot trick the system and so at all times honesty is the best policy.

In my opinion the attributes that they are assessing you on are:
  • Is this person safety conscious?
  • Can they follow instructions?
  • Are they reliable?
  • Are they honest?
Don't forget, if you make it through and qualify as a train driver you WILL be responsible for transporting 100s if not 1000s of people at high speed on a daily basis. They need to ensure that you're up to the job.

If you make it through to the interview stage you will be graded, they are looking for specific answers to specific questions. ie what is the name of the CEO, how will you get to work if your car breaks down (Taxi) - do your research, all of the details will be on the company website.

If you do not live within 60mins of the chosen depot and are prepared to move closer; it's not a problem just say that you are happy to do this.

Above all be honest. It's very easy to make things up, but don't because you are likely to be caught out and one of the attributes is honesty.

For the record, I applied for the position in Feb '19 and was officially accepted into the talent pool in Sept '19 - it can take a long time and I've still not been given a medical or training date. For others it can be much quicker

Good luck to everyone who has the dream
