Can anybody given any insight into the current pay structure for trainee drivers with Northern? It’s like getting blood from a stone. I know the salary starts low and increased after about 9-12 months then periodically. Does anyone know any figures etc? Thanks

What do you mean 'It's like getting blood from a stone'? I disagree. Unlike most private sector jobs the salaries of train drivers are quite easy to find.
Who have you asked?
Look out for the job ads on their website where salary details are clearly given.

Basically....
It depends on what region you are applying for as there are slightly different terms and conditions and, therefore, pay scales.
A.driver in York for example a Trainee Y1 starts around £22.5k with an increment after Y2 and then on full pay in Y3 it will be around £51.5k. Again this depends on the region you are applying for.

Just further to this thread.

Northern don't always put salaries on their jobs a lot of the time.

I was wondering if their was a reference board that may give more information about salaries.

Does anyone have these same figures for Northern (West). Thanks. Is there any reason there are differences? A northern version of London weighting?!!

The West are on £50288 subject to April’s payrise which is still being discussed.
The East and West have different T&C’s.
The main one is Sundays are inside on the East and the West they are outside.
The West have a fixed rest day pattern so you know when you off in years to come.
You also have a third set of T&C’s at Barrow and Blackpool, they are the ex TPE staff who earn around £52K but again have Sundays inside.
There are lots of other differences in T&C’s but I’d be here all night.

Hi RBSN

What is Mod 7, and how long does it take to pass this (ie - how long in service till the first salary increase to 36k)? Reason I ask is I'm in a talent pool awaiting a vacancy, yet I'm also in the process of buying a house so I want to know I can afford it should I be offered a vacancy!

Cheers

Basically means when you pass out. Generally speaking it's forecast to take 12 months however at Northern on the west there is quite a back log of trainees so could potentially take longer. However the way the pay scale works your money will go up after 12 months regardless
