AIUI that’s correct - they still have a lot of the old BR conditions there - Sunday’s outside the week, lots of allowances for various different things - that it essentially means more money for fewer days worked. (Plus the work at Chingford does look, for the most part, slightly more chilled than the überdiagrams at New Cross Gate or Willesden. This probably is not the right area , but with regards to the above company/depot does anyone know why they never take trainees for the above depot , seems to be internal movement only?
Maybe due to different working conditions, being ex GA etc ?
It’s an interesting turn up for the books in that Chingford was the least “popular” West Anglia depot under Greater Anglia (and her predecessors) but now the tables seem to have turned. Some depots are very popular and there are always drivers waiting to transfer to them. In that case there will never be a need to take on trainees as qualified drivers take priority.
I believe Exeter depot in First Great Western days used to be like that. So what a lot of drivers do is get a job at another depot any apply to transfer over as soon as they can.
