History of the 7's
Used to be (About 1963 I think - I was little then!)
34 (Alwoodley via Harrogate Road)
35 (Alwoodley via King Lane)
37 (Shadwell)
69 (Moortown - cramner bank)
70 (primley park)
All went from Central Bus Station
The 34's and 35's changed numbers in Alwoodley then went back to Leeds by the other route.
Some 35's were short route in the rush hour to King Lane Circus. But still displayed 35.
Then they diverted the 70 through Carr Manor Estate.
They canned the 69, extending the 8 from Meanwood up Tongue Lane and into the estate. Eventually became 51/52/53/54 - from Morley
new 43 went to Alwoodley gates, then Wigton Lane to Shadwell
Then the 70 became the 71. dunno why.
There was also a 32 Pudsey -Moortown. Came from City Sq, up Scott hall Road, then Potternewton lane, then Stonegate road. Used to stop where Stonegate road met king lane, then they extended it along to Harrogate Road (By the fire station)
The 32 has gone. The 52 has been diverted up Stonegate Road.
the 34 has gone
The 35 is the 7a, and is out and back
37 is the 7s
43 became the 48 and now goes up Chapletown road and doesnt go all the way to Shadwell
the 7 took over the Potternewton Lane gig from the 32.
leeds City Transport buses used to have a 'limited' indicator, displaying at the front and on the back platform. The timetable said. 'passengers wishing to alight before {bus stop} will not be carried.'
You can see the limited indicator in this pic. Its the rectangular white panel beneath the 5 of the 65. There was a light switch in the cab that lit it up.

LCL also did 'fastaway' buses. These were fast buses in the rush hour, and were numbered in the 200 series, so the 224 went to Swarcliffe. There was an 235 to Alwoodley, that became todays X7.
Guess where I grew up!!
On the subject of the 2's along Chapletown Road/Harrogate Road and suffixes and routes with same number.
in the 1960s', There were 2 routes. The 2 ran past Moortown road to turn round at Shadwell Lane. The 2 Circular (Blind had big 2 and 'circ' in small writing underneath. turned at Moortown into Street Lane and changed to another number (3 circ) to go back to town via Harehills)
Then the circulars became 20/21
