Telephone directory assessment

I have a statement and then a question for you all.

I sat the RSSB assessment very recently. When it came to the 'Telephone Directory' assessment I was told that I had to look for plumbers that had two matching symbols. During the test I came across two symbols that were the same, I looked at the name and instead of A&B Plumbers or Smith & Sons Plumbers or Plumbers Are Us, all it read was "Dynorod"

My question is, should that have been a correct answer?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before.

I did not circle it as a correct answer. It clearly did not state that it was a plumber. To me, knowing that Dynorod are plumbers (although mainly drain unblockers) is a 'Life skill' and unless it stated they were plumbers would mean they are not. After speaking to someone outside after the assessment, they thought they were all plumbers.

Any input would be helpful.

It appears several people have thought it necessary to look for plumbers and symbols. I believe the instructions ask for you to look for/circle matching symbols only.
Like most telephone directories the businesses are all grouped together in alphabetical order. Both pages had the same heading at the top.

Correct, the whole directory is plumbers so you only have to look for the matching symbols.

So basically I misread either the question or the top of the paper as what you are telling me is that they were ALL plumbers, regardless of their name.

Correct.

The only thing to be looking at on this test is the symbols. All the symbols. And nothing but the symbols. This is the easiest test but so many people get confused so don’t worry you are not alone.

Hopefully, I only missed the one 'double symbol'.

Completely IGNORE all writing it means nothing. Only look at the symbols and circle any two matching symbols. Easiest test there is

I did the same, I don't know why they even mention Plumbers if there all plumbers. Someone even asked the question before the test began but the lady said I can't say!. Finding the two matching symbols were easy but looking at each of the names to see if they are plumbers slows it down and cost me time. Now I know why the bloke next to me seem to finish that test faster than me :(

My guess too would be to see who can realise irrelevant information and ignore to complete the task at hand, type of thing.

I had a similar query to do with the restaurant task. I found that I did have to read the text as some were there to trip you up as not all were technically restaurants, some were bnbs etc. I passed the day anyway and those that didn’t do that didn’t get through the first stage. So not sure if it is just matching symbols. I thought it would be too easy. Also, doing the practice tests (how2become), although not entirely accurate to the real tests, they had a similar task to identify the correct service and matching symbols.

They put it in there to confuse people, I found this test simple, look for the double symbols, and circle them...almost did all 4 pages in the set time.
