Hi, last year I purchased an annual card from Sevenoaks to new Cross and another from New Cross to zones 1-6. I had no problem all year with conductors and saved about £500.

I'm looking at it again this year and am wondering if I can do the first part with paper (you still don't seem to be able to buy the plastic key card version of this ticket online) and the second part with a zone's 1-2 oyster card (new cross to canary wharf via London Bridge etc).

However the saving look a bit too good to be true. Sevenoaks to london 1-6 = £4328.00 vs Sevenoaks to new Cross = £2212.00 + oyster zones 1-2 = £1,404.00 total £3,616. That's over £700 cheaper!

What do you think? Thanks very much.

Well, the lower in cost does reflect the loss of access to London zone 3-6 areas. So, that's actually fine...

This ticket combination has piqued my curiousity. If you got a Zones 1-6 Travelcard, why did you buy a point to point ticket from Sevenoaks all the way to New Cross?

What journey(s) did you want covering?

I think OP needs a journey to London Terminals plus an LU journey in zone 1.
(It was widely discussed in the Sevenoaks Rail Travellers Association)

I'm sure the usual advice is point-to-point season and zones 1-2 travelcard. Note, the journey MUST go via New Cross, so no using Thameslink or other services via Bromley South.

Well, Sevenoaks is outside of the zones, so you have to get into London then get a ticket for London zones, although I made a mistake in the original post and only got new Cross to London zones 1-2, that is just what the ticket guy gave me as the second leg. Thanks everyone!

Do you mean the New Cross to London Z12 was issued as a paper ticket rather than as an Oyster? There should be no difference between them as they are both Z12 travelcards.

Yes, I just went with paper tickets in the end as didn't want to deal with potential issues not tapping in with oyster. Thanks for the help
