Hi everyone,
Just to be clear there are no rules, just type out your memories!
I have two from my time in the UK.
In the mid 1980s seeing Mallard after it had been rebuilt by a team led by Bob MeanIey. I only ever once saw it in steam and that was at York. I was so impressed with its sleek body along with the fact that it had wound itself up to 126 mph using simple Victorian engineering principles.
Some time in 1982 seeing a Deltic at York station. I remember seeing it on one of the centre roads at York awaiting a rail tour. It had a look of real menace about it with its engines throbbing away and its lights piercing the gloom. Not to mention it's sheer size. It was sat there for ages.
It's driver was clearly in a mood to give it's young audience a show and eventually blasted out of the station light engine. The HST in the platform almost looked ashamed of itself. However that was nothing compared to its departure with the rail tour!
Thanks for reading this.
