And while the front three were rammed on departure from Sheffield on Wednesday, I managed to have the entire rear carriage to myself...!
Always a bonus when that happens. The fact that people are stupid has it's benefits sometimes!

No. That won't happen until the 397s and 802s come online, so we're talking no additional 6 cars til probably mid-late November at best.
Why the delay? When 2 x Mark V sets are in service are TPE just keeping an extra 2 x 185s in the depot? I know that one or both units will not run any day yet but when they are the spare units should be used. I know they may not be able to run double sets if sufficient 397s are not in service and some 185s are needed but the extra capacity should be provided in the mean time.

There has been a 185 (and sometimes 2) running on 350 diagrams most days for the last few weeks now.Very slightly off-topic but a Manchester to Edinburgh is 3 rather than 4-car today. Issues with a 350?
06:26 Cleethorpes to Manchester Piccadilly and 16:18 Manchester Piccadilly to Cleethorpes (Mon-Fri) tentatively scheduled to be 6 car from Monday 21st October. All comes down to if enough of the new trains go into service next week.
If 06:26 off Cleethorpes is 09:00 into Piccadilly I'll be able to give a live report Wednesday morning. Working hours won't permit me to see it prior to then.
Was it six cars today? I was in Donny bus station at 0740 and remember thinking the train was occupying a lot of 3b? Might be totally mistaken though!
Must have been dreaming, sorry! That one is only showing as 3 cars today.
Is this because 1 of the 350s have went to another TOC?There has been a 185 (and sometimes 2) running on 350 diagrams most days for the last few weeks now.
No, we have the same number of 350s in service that we've had since last November when 403 was long term stopped for repairs after a collision with some horses. Is this because 1 of the 350s have went to another TOC?
I think it's down to maintenance requirements at present.

So this one - the 0808 departure from Sheffield - was indeed a double 185.
However, there was confusion about what would happen at Manchester Piccadilly. (AIUI the train has to split at Piccadilly as there isn't the platform space at Manchester Airport for a full 6 car set at that point). The announcement at Sheffield was that the front 3 coaches would continue to Manchester Airport while the rear 3 coaches would terminate at Manchester Piccadilly, and this was backed up by the seat reservations being on the front set. But the conductor on the back set (where I was - it was pretty lightly loaded, which was lovely, though I suspect the front set was much busier!) was saying that in fact the rear set would continue to the Airport and the front set would terminate at Piccadilly. I didn't hang around to see what actually happened but if that's right, and nothing changes, there's going to be a lot of confused and frustrated passengers wanting the Airport but ending up in the wrong half of the train.
Coming from Sheffield it has to reverse at Piccadilly so if you’re going to drop one it has to be the front set that gets left
Also, the front set needs to be the one with seat reservations due to short platforms at several stations along the route, so if the front train is the one that drops off anyone with a seat reservation to the Airport - unless they're sufficiently experienced travellers to know about this issue - is going to end up having to get off and change carriages at Piccadilly.
Not a brilliant start I'm afraid according to Journey Check.
Unsurprising given another 185 had its fire bottles go off between Durham and Darlington yesterday, and there are no Nova 1 sets in service today. It was always subject to enough new trains being able to release 185s.
Should pick up once more crews are trained and more Nova services can reliably operate, but at least the 08:08 from Sheffield was a 6 this morning. The 2nd unit from that seems to have been attached to the 10:18 Manchester-Cleethorpes in order to ensure the 17:18 from Manchester-Cleethorpes is a 6 later, which is the busier service of the evening.
17.18 from Piccadilly has normally been 6 coaches for quite some time and it's well used. It's the 16.18 that should have benefitted today according to an earlier post.
