Hello. I am planning to travel from Basingstoke to London Waterloo tomorrow with return. I was wondering what time would be considered off peak for the return journey. If I was to return to Basingstoke at 18:30, would that be considered off peak time? Thank you.

For am Off Peak Day Return (CDR) on the direct route into Waterloo (ie. via Woking), the return portion is effectively valid on any train once you get to Waterloo.

The relevant part of the restriction is:
Not valid on any train timed to depart London Waterloo after 04:29 and before 09:00...

Aren’t there Super Off Peak tickets that stop you returning between 4 and 7pm?

Weekday super off peak as below (I didn’t realise they only started at 12!)

https://www.southwesternrailway.com/train-tickets/ticket-types/super-off-peak-tickets

Great for afternoons out in London, our Super Off-Peak tickets are valid on any train arriving at London Waterloo (or any station in zones 1 to 6) after 12:00. You can travel back out of London at any time except during our evening peak - that's:
  • Between 16:00 and 19:00 from London Waterloo.
  • Between 16:03 and 19:04 from Vauxhall.
  • Between 16:09 and 19:10 from Clapham Junction.

I had no idea there were weekend restrictions! I had assumed weekends were all off peak and just picked the cheapest tickets.....might explain why they didn’t always work the barriers (though the gate staff have always let me through without checking the ticket I am waving at them!)
Maybe the ticket machine should bloody tell you!!

Weekend Super Off-Peak tickets are valid on any train arriving at London Waterloo (or any station in zones 1 to 6) before 09:30 and after 12:00. You can travel out of London at any time except:
  • Before 11:00 and between 16:00 and 18:30 from London Waterloo
  • Before 11:05 and between 16:03 and 18:35 from Vauxhall
  • Before 11:05 and between 16:09 and 18:40 from Clapham Junction.

Only at weekends and the OP is travelling today.
SWR/SWT have also had weekday super offpeak fares with evening peak restrictions for quite a few years, but AIUI they are only sold outside the zones for journeys towards Waterloo.
(As Meerkat has since posted.)
“Super Offpeak” availability appears to be randomly different if you compare different TOCs...
