I don't think I have seen Brockenhurst as busy as it was this afternoon.

A double Voyager shut down in platform 1, an up 444 in platform 2, a down Voyager in platform 3 and a Poole stopper and the Lymington shuttle operating via platform 4.

What started as a walk with the dog ended in an interesting hour or so on the footbridge.

The 'busy' look somewhat due to an earlier failure of one of the XC units in platform 1 between Bournemouth and Brockenhurst - delays of up to around 2 1/2 hours whilst it was rescued and dragged to Brock. The Poole stoppers normally go into 1 thus had to share 4 with the Lymington service. Cosy.

The improved look:
"In 2014 the station received £4.6 million of government grants as part of the Access for All initiative to replace the footbridge at Brockenhurst with a new bridge complete with lift shafts.[8] Step-free access to platforms 1 and 2 was previously by a rotating turntable bridge across the tracks while step-free access to platforms 3 and 4 was across the track bed itself."

When two units are coupled and one fails why does the train need to be dragged? Can't the OK unit dragged (or pushed)? Or was the London end unit the one that did the dragging in this case?

I think the coupling up would have been after the rescue. There are normally no double 22x formations in the area at the time it all kicked off. RTT suggests a down XC was tipped out at Brockenhurst at one stage, possibly for it to become the rescue unit?

Interestingly, if you look at it with Street View on the up side entrance you see the new bridge installation and on the down side access road you see the old bridge still, as those images were taken in 2009. I suppose the google photo car forgot to go up there this time round. It may be a private road.

correct, 1O18 tipped out at Southampton and was sent to rescue. Interestingly the defective unit was already running as empty (5M38). It took longer to resolve than expected as the fault transferred to the London end unit, so they had to split and attach mechanically only then drag at 5mph.

Brockenhurst looks nice but the canopy leaks live a sieve, as do many stations to be honest.
