In order to purchase tickets with our discount applied do we as rail staff need to go to St Pancras in person or can we do so by another method. Also is anyone able to tell me what proof we need to take with us if this is the case?

Cheers peeps

The Rail Delivery Group website gives the following phone numbers to order tickets on its staff travel pages. Booking fees apply.

International Rail Ltd. 0333 003 0423
Rail Canterbury 01227 450088
Ffestiniog Travel 01766 515630

Two different levels of discount apply for staff travel on Eurostar: one for safeguarded staff and the other for non-safeguarded staff.

If you want the safeguarded discount (as opposed to the FIP discount) then I'm sure that can only be obtained at Eurostar booking offices.

That's hard for those who live up North then.
I suppose it depends on how much you want to make a saving

If they get free travel anyway Northerners could easily pop down to London one weekend to collect their tickets and make a day of it. Nothing is free these days but a discount is a discount

No, I've bought safeguarded staff rate from Rail Canterbury over the phone, they just needed my staff travel card numbers; presumably the others will be the same too.

Will the railways ever allow these tickets to be booked online? TfL have managed an online solution for Eurostar fares, not really open to abuse either like the Sleeper tickets were.

Indeed - it can't be beyond the wit of man for a password protected system for booking on line with PRIV to be developed, one that links the user ID to a name and staff travelcard /FIP card number.

Thalys allow for fip tickets to be bought online for Dutch and Belgian staff, had access to the site to check prices a few years ago.

But to be honestly, but the time you add the £10 booking fee for staff tickets, public tickets are about the same price or cheaper. Got Amsterdam for £35 next month. Staff one was more expensive.

Would be idea for HMRC they could just calculate the benefit in kind tax at the highest rate of income tax and get it debited from your card or PayPal :0
