I would say everyone’s experience is very different, my own journey has been pretty seamless through training, and the end is now in sight, however there are others on my course from different depots who are struggling for driving hours due to lack of DI’s. I think it’s one of them things you just have to take as it comes. Best of luck to you, it’s fairly enjoyable and not to strenuous!

Which depot and where are you going to be based? I've just finished rules and traction with GWR at SPM and started handing last week. Throw us a PM mate if you want a chat

As above really mate it depends on TOC/FOC. For me it was fairly straight forward got offered a job straight away, started training the following month and everything just flowed from there and took me 6 months from start to finish however there are people I know who have had some obstructions along the way and are struggling to get there driver handling hours in due to lack of DI at certain locations.

I'd say as a rough guide give yourself minimum 12 months to be fully qualified and anything before is a bonus and just take each day as it comes. Good luck.

Hi,
Read this thread as I started driver training in Oct. So far completed basic operations, half of Rules, and Traction. Low speed handling this week, first time driving!

Those of you reading this who are further Into training or passed out, did you struggle with anything? What was most difficult to get your head around?

Low speed handling is fun haha enjoy I remember when I first did this , I’m nearly at the end of my training got around 180 hours I would say for me so far nothing is really difficult it’s the amount of information you have to retain for example when you get to out of course situations (Temporary block working , T3 possessions and faults and defects on the train) it’s a big module so much to learn and you get knowledge fade from other modules like traction trying to remember and also keeping up your route knowledge
