In the SWR android app it lets you load a ticket onto your smartcard directly from the app. I tried out of interest to see if it would still give this option even if the ticket was between two non SWR stations. As you can see from the image it does. Can I use the SWR smartcard for the trip (HRH-CTM) or is it just a bug?

Similarly, I've noticed that Chiltern allow me to put an Ipswich to Cambridge ticket on to a smart card. They claim any smart card, however they claim my Greater Anglia smart card doesn't exist when I enter it's number.

Longer term there'll be more cross over with the smart cards and tickets. I really don't want to get to the stage of one smart card for every TOC I've ever travelled on, never might journeys where the journey includes multiple operators (such as my commute).

I tried the same thing too but with the Key smartcard, and said there was an issue. However it lets me continue with the SWR smartcard, hence the post. Would be very handy if it is not a bug.

I've successfully purchased tickets from the Chiltern website and loaded them onto my Chiltern smartcard from their app for Greater Anglia-operated services.

The barriers at one end were totally fine with this. At the other end (Stansted Airport) I told the staff my ticket was on a smartcard and they just waved me through with no further checks.

I've even had a smartcard ticket on a Chiltern smartcard purchased from Chiltern, on a flow operated by Greater Anglia, checked on a CrossCountry train - and everything went surprisingly smoothly.

While the Chiltern site says that any operator's smartcard can be used there, it's not currently working. I emailed them about it and apparently they're only accepting Chiltern smartcards for now, but it should work with other operators cards in the not too distant future.

While I haven't checked too many corner cases of these kind of tickets, I've had a pretty good experience with the scant few non-season tickets that are enabled at the moment.

It's not uncommon to see a variety of different operators Smartcards all over the place now, it should be something staff have come across and be familiar with.

To be far to the TOCs, it's not like this is an issue that could possibly have been foreseen when rolling out ITSO smartcards...

I must give this a go, last time I tried, I couldn't get the app to do anything apart from tell me my card number (last 4 digits), which I knew as the card was in my hand being scanned!

Follow up - how do you get it to offer ITSO card delivery as an option - I keep getting TOD for my choices?

For me it works on pretty much all SWR routes as you would expect, and you need to make sure you click a ticket with the blue ITSO icon like the picture below. For other TOC's like Scotrail it pretty much shows for all routes too. However e.g. with GTR, it works with the routing I have put above (HRH-CTM), but does not show for other routings sometimes, such as Horsham to Brighton.

What other TOCs offer this in their app?
Also interested to know if using the SWR app if you can load a daily travelcard onto the SWR smartcard or if you can load a travelcard onto a GTR smartcard via the SWR app?

I have several Newcastle to Manors weekly seasons on EMR Northern and GWR cards, all to aid our Gateline/TVM testing
Interesting, might have to give this a go on Tuesday then. Would a GTR ticket office issue me a plusbus, with my ticket being on the SWR smartcard?

I've used my SE Key Smartcard several times now from Southern stations. I've successfully collected and used smart tickets on journeys such as Haywards Heath to East Croydon, and Eastbourne to Orpington. I tried using my card on Southern TVMs earlier this year and would get an "Error has occurred", but now it works without any problems.
