For some years, a black lifesize model of an owl has stood guard on a post at the top of the stairs into Lewes signal box. Sometimes it faced north, sometimes north-west, occasionally other directions.

A month ago, it was still there. Passing today (Nov 20th) it has gone. Is the box now unmanned and its operation transferred to Three Bridges or is that still to happen during the closure from Nov 28? And where is the owl now?

It's definitely in operation as the signals in the vicinity still have the 'LW' plates on them.

No idea about the owl, but Lewes Signalbox is still alive and kicking for the time being and the scheduled closure with recontrol to TBROC is still going ahead as planned.

There were a lot of owls in the area, mainly to scare birds off substations. They have been slowly vanishing.
