Seems a bit odd to describe it as the "Strensall area", Strensall is on the Scarborough line so there are no wires there. It's a good 5 or 6 miles away from the ECML.
Is it an 'Azuma' unit?I'm on 1Y32 where we are awaiting a Doncaster Thunderbird to drag us into York, where the train will be terminated due to pantograph damage.
LNER have referred on Twitter to a train having OHLE wrapped round the train.
No, Mark 4Is it an 'Azuma' unit?
There are problems on the East Coast Main Line again affecting TPE, CrossCountry, Grand Central and LNER.
The power cables have been damaged at Overton, north of York and Minster FM has been told the Fire service has been brought in to help deal with the incident.
Network Rail says:
We’re sorry that there’s significant disruption to the East Coast Main Line near York.
This is because of damage to the overhead line equipment between Skelton Bridge and Skelton Junction in the Overton area.
Our response teams are on site and prioritising getting passengers moving again as soon as possible.
At this stage disruption is expected for several hours.
Passengers should check with National Rail Enquiries or with their train operators before travelling.
An investigation is now underway to find out what happened.
Services will be delayed, amended and cancelled.
More information on trains affected is here
We're apparently expecting to be dragged into York starting about 1630. Until then we're blocking all lines.Carnage at Darlington when I passed through off the Saltburn line at about 15.10 Displaced passengers everywhere. RTT suggests things are getting better here but not seeing much action out of a window overlooking the ECML
Severe overhead wire damage following a dewirement north of the station. No diverts possible on this stretch replacement buses are operating between York and Newcastle from around 14:30.
Newcastle Thunderbird is en-route to the area
The emergency services are checking it is not live, draining residual current, climbing on top of the train and removing the cable.
It is the OLE staff. They arrived on scene not long ago.I would hope that OLE staff are doing that, not the emergency services!
I would hazard a guess that one or more headspans are down between Skelton and Skelton Bridge.
Any trains stuck this time?
The wires were down on the offending LNER train (1Y32) and also CrossCountry's 1V89 (Newcastle - Reading). I think I heard there is about 3 miles of damage in total. There's also this picture: https://mobile.twitter.com/sierra18NY/status/1201529076655304704
The incident train was said to be LNER. So if that is a picture of today's incident are/were the wires down on multiple trains?
1E13 (07:55 Inverness to London King's Cross) seems to be heading Northbound now. I wonder if that set will go to Newcastle and become 1W96?
Why are TPE so bad at dealing with disruption? Ok I know it is always more complicated than it appears to Joe Public like myself. Staffing would seem the main problem (drivers needing breaks, staff needing to end up at the right places at end of service) as units should be available to run either side of the disruption.
Are TPE particularly bad or would any TOC struggle? Having contingency timetables for main parts of their route ready to go would seem like one option.
