Hello guys.

Would any of you have a copy of the old BR pay rates they could please send me?

Such as 1 7/12, double time, 1 3/4 etc. All dependant on the day and times.

Can't find them anywhere.

Cheers.

Time and a third for (additional) Saturday working. (capped at 10 hrs pay for 7 hrs "booked")

Managers got 15% allowance for "on call duties" , and above MS1 , were expected to work the first 15 hours a month above "normal" hours for nothing. Yes - nothing - or "time off in lieu" , which in my experience was impossible to arrange , let alone take. After much debate , a "one-off" ex gratia payment was made.

My only experience was picking up the pay calculations at privatisation, and trying to make sense of them with a normal commercial computer payroll. The number of variables and conditions made this a near impossibility. A lot of it doubtless came from an infinite number of union agreements over the years. BR had a centralised payroll computer team, I think they were at Derby, who programmed for all of this and ran the pay every week,, and it was possible initially to outsource the payroll production to them - but at considerable cost.

Cheers.

Reason I ask, is because some workers actually still receive the rates, but the company are looking to restructure.

Making sure employees arent short-changed as their rates secure them a guaranteed 6k a year on top of basic salary (night rate) and at least an extra 10k in overtime. Each.

I think Sunday was / is paid at 14 hours minimum. Time and a quarter before 06.00 and after 21.00 (all days), too.

There were also allowances such as Tunnel Allowance £1.35 per shift, Off District Meal Allowance £2.85 per shift, Electrified Lines Allowance 75p per shift are the only three that I can recall.

The enhancements depended on what group of staff you were. In my world of the M&EE, the Concilliation, Workshop and Salaried staff all had different pay conditions.

You really need to get hold of an old conditions of service book for the relevant grade group and take it from there.

In the M&EE we also had “height money” and “dirt money” allowances!

I remember booking Electric Line allowance when working on the Bury line, but I recall it being only 12p/day. It stuck in my mind because it equated to 1p per 100V!

I'm sure I also remember a 'Spoilt Food Allowance' listed somewhere, presumably for those delayed beyond their booked Off Duty time.

All swept away (for us) by the post Clapham S&T Restructuring.
