This ticket is coming up on TrainSplit.com for journeys between Ipswich and Northumberland Park on 22 January. Price £30 for two people with a Two together railcard.

It seems to be a ticket (per the restriction code B4) which specifies the outward joruney - but not the return.

But.. I can't find this ticket on any other website e.g Trainline, Greater Anglia etc., National Rail

Any ideas as to why - and if it can be brought from any website.

This is a Greater Anglia promotional product, originally created about 5 years ago for the "New Year Seat Sale", which is what I assume it's being used for again this time. When originally set up it was available to any retailer to retail, so should be on all sites.

But that's the point. I've tried several sites and it only shows up on Trainsplit (and related) website! No mention on GA's website. i've purchased the ticket now though!

The NX2 fares appear to have no data in the fare setter field. I would hazard a guess that this is to indicate that it is not currently an active fare but TrainSplit/RailEasy is not filtering out these records.

Have you successfully collected/received your ticket yet?

No, that's not correct. There are plenty of these knocking around and which are active. They are "non-derivable" fare records. The data format for non-derivable fares does not support a fare setter. "Non-derivable" fares are fares that cannot be "derived" from an adult fare, by way of a status code (such as a railcard). Promotional and flat fares are typical examples. There aren't as many as there used to be.

Yes - collected from the ticket machine the other day.

As an aside, booking tickets today for a couple of other journeys and these tickets keep showing up e.g Manningtree to London return, Colcehster to London return etc.

More on these 'hare fares'.

I used the site to buy a London LS to Manningtree - single. The fare was £15 which was very good - again it's Hare Fare NX2 ticket.

Here's the thing though - when I picked up the ticket from the station they had sold me a London LS to Manningtree - as promised, and the machine gave me a return portion!

You bought a return ticket and received a return ticket. Ticket machines can't issue a different ticket from what you bought. Most likely the explanation is that the return promotional fare was cheaper than a one-way fare for the journey you selected, so the fare presented was a return fare, and you didn't notice.

According to Greater Anglia the Hare Fares are only available as returns, and only available on their website and not from third party retailers. See https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/harefares. So they should not be retailed on Trainsplit.
